Discuss games, swap console #'s (message board), problems, questions, etc.

Please refrain from "fanboy flaming". Make a thread dedicated to a different console for that.
Please post spoiler warnings in front of things that could release secrets of games to those who would prefer not to know.

Enjoy :)

Well I know it's not going to help the thread or anything but I was probably one of the first people to get one in North Carolina, I got it right at midnight and I've been playing it a lot and having fun with Twilight Princess and Red Steel. The only complaint I have is I think when you hit the power button on the remote it takes off the sync and you have to redo it.

I didn't know that and had to re-sync it about three times which was hard for me to do :(

I'm digging that shit. The sports game was kind of weak.....but I only did the bowling and tennis. I got me a 251 in bowling on my second game. Easy ass fuck. Yes, asS fuck.

That Zelda shit though....pretty fucking fun. The beginning with all the cut scenes was ridiculously too long and the beginning reminded me a lot of Shadow of Colussus.
But once I started playing I was all bonerfied. Like I mentioned in another thread, the fishing part really sucked. Turning into a wolf was bad ass. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

I got used to the controllers almost immediately...although occasionally they had to tell me to point my remote towards the screen since i got too relaxed.

Good times. Good times.

Wii sports gets better as you train and shit. My age is 69 :o

Agreed with he fishing, it's kind of messed up, but it's not all that bad. How many hours have you played Zelda, Rock?
We rented Rayman so I'll get into that later, looking forward to it.

Rock
11-20-2006, 04:56 PM
I played it for about 3 or 4 hours, switching with my lady.

I don't know how long she played because I went to bed at like midnight and she was still playing. But if I had to guess...she probably put in about 7 or 8 hours.

I had preordered mine at Toys R US, and picked it up with little wait time, and no hassle. I bought Zelda Twilight Princess along with the console. The next day, I picked up my preorders for Red Steel and Excite Truck at a GameStop store.

So far, I've played around with Wii Sports. Tennis seemed to be the most fluid, easy-to-try game. I didn't much care for the golf and bowling games. Boxing was pretty neat. Afterwards, I popped in Zelda, but only put in about a half hour's worth of game time. From what I've played, it looks like it's going to be an incredible adventure.

As of now, I have a weak set up, regarding my TV and the stand its on, so the Wii is back in its box. I think I'll just set it back up on what I have to work with, and just set the motion sensor device on the ground, and set the Wii on top of my TV. There's an option where you have this choice - that is, if you want the motion sensor device above or below your TV.

I'm looking forward in playing Red Steel and Excite Truck.

...So, that's what I had wrote on another message board, but anyway, I want to expand more on the first experience of playing: When I first tried out the controls, it was great. It wasn't strange or anything. It's refreshing to play games differently for once. There was no learning curve either. It felt natural. I suppose that means Nintendo accomplished their goal of creating something simple, but fun.

Wii Sports is the only Wii title so far that purposely has underwhelming graphics. The Wii is roughly 2.5 times more powerful than the GameCube.

That means we're going to see some nice looking games. But if you're going into the experience expecting 360 or PS3 graphics, or anything close, you'll be dissappointed.

as far as graphics go I tend to have a fairly whatever attitude. I dont need super flashy shit...but seriously...far cry is weaker than the regular xbox graphics. For a next gen system, that doesnt really cut it.

I dunno if they're just using Gamecube development kits since its easier to shit out games quick or what but it seriously looks very underwhelming.

The Wii hardware is very similar to the 'Cubes. It's like a GameCube "deluxe". Nintendo has stated that developing on the Wii will be just as easy as it was on the 'Cube. For those reasons we might see alot of developers skimping on the graphics, instead of really showing us what the system can do.

The Weather and News channels will be up in December and January, Nintendo is working on something "special" for online Wii'ers for the holidays, and we get online gaming early next year.

It's out on the 7th of December here. I was in a mall and saw 3 of them set up. Nice promo booth distracting plenty of foot traffic. Just watching people use it had me sold. People were gathering around. At first you stop to check out the graphics, methinks, then you realise how fun it looks. Had a blat on wii sports. Was fun. People say they can't line shots up straight away; I can see how you'd expect to be more zealous than is necessary. But it is sweet. Looks really cool, the machine.

Zelda was running on another machine. I noted that when fighting a boss, a variety of control options present themselves. You need to swing like a sword to cut chains, point your bow and arrow, and straight-up run about like normal. Seemed pretty seamless in that regard. Whether or not this is always the case with future games remains to be seen. But yeah, colour me impressed.

My research keeps taking me to myspace, and people I knew in high school.

I hope it's free, but more than that, easy to connect. It seems consoles are harder to get online than pc's here.

Zelda really did look fucking sick by the way.

Pres Zount
12-03-2006, 06:01 AM
Well, the xbox360 seemed to connect REALLY easy. I'm talking plug it in and that's it. But you have to pay to play. I don't see a problem with paying a couple of bucks to download a retro game, but playing should be free. I can play online for free on my PC anytime I want. I think it having free online play is the biggest selling point for me.

And zelda does look good. Wich is awesome to the max, because I want more adventure games that susan will stay up all night playing, and then I want her to ring me up at work asking what to do with the megaton hamer.

SEE: OTHER WII THREAD.

SEE ALSO: INTERVIEW WITH NINTENDO OF AMERICA BIG BOSS REGGIE:

Q: A few years ago, Nintendo made a conscious decision to lie low when Microsoft introduced Xbox Live and began promoting its subscription online gaming service. In retrospect, does that look like a good decision?
A: I wasn't here. What I can tell you is the way we've approached online play now is really with a view to the masses. With Nintendo DS (a dual-screen handheld player), for example, we offer free Internet play in a wide-ranging series of games. Our focus is getting as many consumers to enjoy that online experience as possible. And we've done that.

Q: You're not pursuing a subscription model?
A: We view online gaming as essentially an enhanced way to enjoy the gaming experience and drive more sales of hardware and software.

Q: How do you extend your online strategy to Wii?
A: It's the same premise. We will offer online-enabled games that the consumers will not have to pay a subscription fee for. They'll be able to enjoy that right out of the box. The Wii console is going to be Wi-Fi enabled, so essentially, you'll be able to plug it in and go. It won't have hidden fees or costs.

The character runs on its own, to follow the ball. All you have to worry about it swinging on time. But the controller picks up the angle, direction, and speed of the swing....all that good stuff. So it's deeper than most think.

After a year we should have some pretty high profile titles out. Super Smash Bros: Brawl, a title confirmed for online play, is rumored to come out in the Spring or Summer. Mario Galaxy is looking like a Summer title, and in the Fall we'll see Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Animal Crossing, Brain Age, Wario Ware, Mario Soccer, Battalion Wars, Mario Party...there are some good franchises on the way.

This isn't quite true. I play all types of video games, for all consoles and handhelds. I've only been displaying interest for Wii here. It's coincidental, perhaps.

I've majorly been neglecting Wii. Every time I consider playing some Twilight Princess, I get sidetracked. To be honest, I find myself playing DS mostly. Give me some time, I'll get back into it.

I just played about an hour and a half of CoD3 and I'm really liking it. The controls are tough at first, but i'm (still) getting the hang of it. As I expected it's a lot like the PC chapters of CoD but that's fine with me. I like how it incorporates my character's hearing into the game, i.e. after a grenade goes off near me, I have a ringing in my ear. I'm pretty sure it did that in PC version? I want to buy this or Red Steel (Which i haven't gotten my hands on). I just wish it would go online in the future. :(

I AM NOW IN POSSESSION OF A WII!

i am in possession but i can't open it until 6pm when my boyfriend SPRINTS off the train, falls in a taxi and does a roly-poly to my front door. hopefully the trains will be working. omg! can you imagine? waiting for ages!

we went at midnight and collected it and all my desired accessories! apart from they didn't have remotes to sell on their own, only with wii plays (which are about £2 more expensive). i did consider just going to virgin/hmv tomorrow to pick them up but scott (my flatmate) was just like "SERIOUSLY. YOU FANNY. you're spending £350 on this whole package but you're too cheap to spend an extra £4 on two controllers? DO IT!" so i did.

god, what a weird bunch of people were at the opening. nerds galore in zelda tshirts. and tired fathers. and japanese people. i was #24. all these people with huge GAME bags were walking down sauchiehall street with drunk neds shouting "SEE YOU THERE, PAL! WHATCHA GOT IN THE BAG HEN? CANNAE HAVE A DEEK?" and i'm like "um. no. scott, get me in a taxi, now!"

oohhh pres, i so have a hilarious picture in my head of you and some other bloke fighting like girls over a package which is stamped with "NINTENDO TASMANIA WII SHIPMENT FOR 2006". hahaha. good luck!

Actually man, that's really a big misconception. Sure it feels cooler to get up and swing your arms like a golf club, or punch like your really boxing. But sitting down and playing, making smaller movements works just the same. I think what's misleading people are all the commercials and promo videos showing people jumping about as if they just snorted a line.

That remote is the coolest thing. I am a complete spaz so it's going to take ages for me to get good. I love the noises and vibrations though. I was skeptical but it's really fun.

First time sword fighting was tough to handle, the sword wasn't responding how I would like it too, but as things went on it gathered itself. Out of CoD3, ExciteTruck and Red Steel, I would want to buy Red Steel. Although I must say, all the missions/objectives feel too much the same, walk through door, shoot guys, find so&so, etc. Hopefully later on something else will jump into the game (driving, flying, so on-- but I won't keep my hopes up).

**TEENY WEENY ZELDA SPOILERS AHEAD**

i just finished the 2nd temple in zelda last night. omgoodness, what fun! i love how you can't z-target with the bow and arrow and it just depends on your own skill. i fucking rock at it. it was a great temple. i died, oooh, about 8 freakin' times trying to do the jousting stuff on the bridge beforehand though, youch!

it was total teamwork on the part of me and scott and kicked ass. then we got some bomb action goin' on and went blowing up all the places we can think of.

we're both seriously having zelda dreams. are we going mad?

p.s. you can buy a nintendo wifi dongle that you can just stick in your computer's usb thingie and it will create a wireless network for your wii. and they are available now, but they're only a little cheaper than paying the whole price for a wireless router so i don't really see the point.

i wonder if you can get just any old ethernet thing to connect it up or do you have to use the nintendo one? i'm pretty sure if you try any ethernet to usb adaptor it will work. try it!

done some googling and the dongle costs about 50 AUS $.

my boyfriend's brother has one and it works good.

i don't know how much wireless routers are in oz but here i thought it was much more cost effective to just shell out an extra 20 bucks to get a router and then the whole place becomes wireless and you can go online on the toilet if you really, really feel the need.

or you can just wait for the ethernet cable. eek, i don't know! but i want to send you pictures of my food!

I did get to use it a bit, and when it worked, it worked perfect. My computer's firewalls didn't like it, and I'm still learning that stuff, so I never was able to figure it out. I just returned it. But everyone I have talked to who has used it said it's awesome.

It was about $40 US. I just returned mine and bought a Belkin Router. Most routers will work with the Nintendo adapter, just tinker with your firewall settings first, and make sure they'll allow it.

Next month Wii Play comes out. It has another Wii Sports-esque selection of mini-games, one of which (if I'm not mistaken) is a new version of Duck Hunt, and comes with a pack in Wii Remote. Schwing. That'll probably be the next game I pick up.
