Wow. I've never been this stumped before. I can't figure out if this is just infuriating noodling or really nifty atmospherics or what the hell.
I'm giving ( ) a try. From time to time I seriously just want to push the drummer over. :D
Anyone? Anyone?

the previous album, aegaetis byrjum (i'm probably butchering that) is utterly beautiful. i haven't had much opportunity to listen to ( ), but i remember liking it. and Takk... has very, very amazing moments. love them. (y)
I think it's atypical of Sigur Ros fans, but "()" was the first album from them I got and it's still kinda my favorite. I think they're really great - but I'm always struck by a certain sense of injustice when I listen to them. I mean - how many other foreign language bands do I really bother with? One? Maybe? The only reason I've listened to them is just because they had so much buzz around them.
You know, maybe they deserve it because their sound is just so out there - but there could be lots of similar bands that I'd never pick up because they were strange experimental Northern European bands...and that just isn't always appealing.
they're cool but depressing

Takk has one of the most gorgeous songs ever......Hoppipola (probably mis spelling)
I swear I'm dancing to it at my wedding.

I watched that video on the airplane today because it makes me smile. I listen to a lot of Sigur Ros when I fly. That whole album is stunning, but my favorite song is Milano. Von is the only album I had a hard time getting into. The cover freaks me out, for one thing. My favorite track on () is track 4.
The drummer is fantastic live, but then I don't know anything about drummers. He is just my favorite part of the band when I see them live.
One thing that I love about Sigur Ros is that on their last tour, they played some festival dates, and apparently they had trouble with instruments and sound. So their manager went on the band's website and said how bad the band had sucked. I wish more bands would tell the truth.

a-z, I understand what you're saying. I haven't recommended Sigur Ros's CDs to anyone. I love Sigur Ros for the same reasons I loved Pink Floyd when I was a kid -- it takes me out of my head when I need that, but I can also use it as background music. It's the music I listen to when I am not in the mood to listen to anything else.
I do drag friends to the concerts because the light show and moody music and freaky icelandic girls playing goblets and a mac and a saw have to be seen to be believed.

Hjartað Hamast (Bamm Bamm Bamm) was the first song i downloaded off of soulseek about 4 years ago. A friend recommended it and holy shit was I blown away. Hooked ever since.

I think they're overated. I grant you that they are good but I think the hype around them is excessive. I heard someone call them 'sophisticated elevator music' and I'm tempted to agree.

More replies than I'd expected. Cool.
Yeah. I need to soak this in a bit more or probably try some of the other albums you folks suggest. I had heard that Takk was really good.
Kind of hard to believe that I got this through BMG music club, in a way. But I had some, uh, "free" CDs coming and somehow found this one on their site.
The drummer just kind of sounds like he's winding down and about...... to....... stop....... any....... any.......... any.......... second.......... about........... to......... just........... a..............second........... hang................ on........... about.............

I feel like this pretty often. I try to listen to more stuff from around the world (as opposed to whatever Starbucks labels as "world music" that week), but, generally, I feel like, yeah, I'm pretty ethnocentric sometimes.

I think () is pretty horseshit depressing plodding atmospheric garbage that is kind of pretty from time to time but mostly bores the living poopoo out of me.
Alien fetus album is downright beautiful though. Loves it.
