ok, so i am trying to set up this road trip over christmas break to travel to oklahoma city to watch my school play in a basketball game there

well the total driving time is estimated at 19 hours

i have budgeted that we would have to drive 13 or 15 hours on the first day, and then have to get up pretty early the next day to finish off the rest.

with i think 4 of us going, we could rotate a lot, but i am beginning to think that it might be easier to push off the trip to a time when we can take a couple days to do it instead of just the one for the bulk of the trip.

not to mention that we would have to do the same thing on the way back

so what do you think? should i try and squeeze the trip in now and hit up the game, or wait itll summer and take my time with the whole trip and see some more sites on the way?

the only thing worth driving 19 hours for is sex. and it had better be unfuckingbelievable.

I agree. How many freakin' miles would go on your car too? If it's only for a few days, def. not worth it. Unless you get a loaner. That's what we did when we went to Chicago for the weekend.

its about 1,100 miles each way, give or take a few

i think the main draw to doing it in december is the game and the fact that i actually wanted to do this last summer but it fell through

i am definetly leaning toward pushing it to a week long summer trip, put the problem then becomes when to do it since i sort of need to do that job thing and all that

I don't know if this helps but my friend and I drove from California to Indiana a few months ago. We got here in exactly 2 days right down to the hour. That includes time spent eating and sleeping. Google maps quoted the trip at about 30 hours which is pretty much how long the actual driving took. Oh and I personally did all the driving, as my friend can't drive stick. Anyway, the drive was fine and I actually enjoyed it. Just make sure you have a comfortable sleeping arrangement after that first long day of driving.

I've only driven that far twice - once for a skiing vacation in Whistler where I had a week to recover in between the 36 hours of round trip driving and once when the boyfriend and I moved in together... sex was involved in one of the scenarios, skiing in the other... basketball? eh.

add: and to think that YOU thought it was too long of a drive to make it to Horsham... pffft

i couldn't imagine driving for 19+ hrs and the end result being OK. if you really must go, be smart, save money and take a fucking airplane for under $300 return.

to watch my school play in a basketball game there

I read this as "...to watch my school theater production in a basketball game there," so that paragraph took a couple of tries to sort itself out.

i think after analyzing this, i really need to stretch it over a week in order to make it worthwhile. that way i can actually enjoy some time with the people who i would be staying with each night and find those crazy roadside destinations...

that being said, does anyone know of any good stops on I-70 between pittsburgh and st louis, or on I-44 from st louis to tulsa?

Yeah, Pete, fuck going to the Pitt game. Instead travel to London, Ontario and crash with a creepy, old dude with no shirt.
