I was offered my job after 3 interviews. They sent me a formal letter addressing my salary, my benefits, etc. I had to sign it and send it back. THEN after all that, they informed me that they were doing a full background check including credit. I obviously passed it as I'm now working here, but I thought it was kinda none of their business to know how much my mortgage is or how much credit card debt I have. Not that there is any...

What field is the job in?

I think that it is becoming more common these days for background and credit checks depending on what field you are in.
I had a job offer for taking care of the ins and outs of a companies money and they wanted to do a credit check and all that good stuff too. I think its to see how well you can handle your money and get things done on time (ie pay bills).

I feel like I'm saying something that everyone knows already.

I'm not too nuts about the credit-check-as-employability-barometer thing. Maybe check for evictions or something -- I think you have to have actual character problems to get evicted, whereas bad credit can be a little more iffy. Especially with identity theft and any spousal problems and whatnot.

my credit is fine, but if a company asks to run a check for employment I will respectfully decline.

I think the third interview is when they roll out the ceremonial daggers. (y)

It's marketing in the real estate/construction world. I really don't think it should be anyone's business but my own (and maybe my creditors) how well I handle my money. Ah well, I'm employed, that's all that matters, I guess.

You're in the same boat as me then. I just made my thread about being anxious to work and just now read this.

Haha, I walked to get to my interview and all of the sudden it started pouring rain so I walked inside the guy's office drenched and he was laughing about the water dripping off me.

Good luck anyway.
