...and she didn't know what Okra is. You should know I'm a coniisoeur, err, I know a lot about Pakistani food. After my initial attempts at describing it, she thought of Karella. Turns out it's called Ladyfinger in Indian English and Bhindi in Indian Language. Oi, you naughty brits....

I though okra was a traditional West Indian food??

My mum cooks a great okra dish: sautees them with loads of garlic, peppers and cumin. Yummmmmy

Do the french call courgettes, courgettes?

Wow, exactly what I thought too. Apparently okra is international?

Unless it's used in stews. Gross.

at least it's not as slimy in a stew as it is when you boil it.

I always thought okra was Indian. I've used it very rarely, actually it is very unusual here. At my local grocieries sometimes they have all sorts of weird things from all around the world (they buy cheap leftovers or close to sell-by-date a lot) and they had once frozen okra. That was much better than the stuff from a can, actually I really enjoyed it then.

Here zucchini is also known as squash and in Finland it's known as summerpumpkin. We use all those names such as much.

Bhindi is soo fuckin good if done right. but sooo fucking bad if not done right.

My wife used to not like okra (or eggplant) until she had it pakistani/indian style. now she loves it...but only when my moms makes it.

Maybe I should try your mum's cooking cause I've never had a meal with aubergine that I like... My mum even bought my first vegetarian cook book 25 years ago cause I was complaining about it...

I can't get Aubergine to work for me too. It's ok if coated with breadcrumps and fried in good oil but I'd still have something with more consistency and taste...
