Update: a similar fly just started flying around me while I was sitting here at the computer. It may have been the same one, I dunno. I swiped at it a few times, and missed, but then as it flew a little further in front of me I caught it with a perfect backhand, pimp-slapping it into the wall, which it bounced off and landed on the floor. So far it hasn't moved.
