(eternal sunshine style - except not to such an extent) Im curious as to wether or not there are people out there who can actually do this. My mother said if I found someone who was capable of this she'd pay for it.
Now the question is, if it's possible, SHOULD I do it?

you mean recovering memories? your memories can't be recovered through hypnosis just like that (everything you know, everything that's happened to you since the moment you were born, aren't just bits of information that are floating around in your mind, and can't be recalled for once it's forgotten -at least that's what i have learned in psychology) the power of hypnosis depends on you for the most part because if you don't expect anything to happen, it won't. even if it does, false memories can be made out of it and the hypnotist can mislead you into remembering events that didn't even happen. make sense? :S

No I want to REPRESS them. Make them GO AWAY. not bring them back.

okay then i'd say that if you believe it, it might work. go for it.
then if you do it, it does work, and you want them back, refer to last post. ;)

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I don't think I could stand the feeling of not being able to remember something, like a blank spot in my head.

well yeah i'd only suggest it if it's something you really really want to have done and feel comfortable with and can live with it, no regrets.

I dont want an entire blank spot, I was just wondering if certian memories can be pushed back. Because I went through a lot of shit at one point in my life and it's in the back of my head constantley. I have dreams about it, and it'll go away for a while, and then come back and I go through these depressed periods. I just want it to go away.

Also it kind of freakin upsets me that im serious and people are joking about this. How would you feel if I told you I got raped every week over a year's time and THAT'S what I want to repress? How'd you feel then?
And the sad thing is that I know people are going to say "Oh man I feel great!" and your a fucking dickhead if you do.

who's joking?
sorry i can't help any more than that, since i don't know who does this kind of
hypnosis....but good luck with it.
gotta think carefully now, because it might not get rid of the memory completely!
still don't know much about repressed memories..but this would probably be a concern.
edit: gah nevermind i didn't help at all did i....

maybe you should make a therapy instead

if they're painful enough, your mind will automatically repress them as a coping mechanism.

yeah wat zorra said, but i doubt that actually exists as like therapy or watever at this point in time, unless its that kind of conspiracy theory shit with the gravy an all, in which case u definatley dont wat to get involved.
but yeah i've have some rough times too, not as rough as yours but still rough and over time it is blocked out. its wierd though because if someone brings it up or something and your forced to remember after a while it just a blurry dream kinda of thing liek you doubt it was real except that you get this wierd feeling that tells you it was more than a dream.
this might sound lame or whatever, but give it time it will get better eventually.

It is painful. It ruined my life and I dream about it, or friends bring the people involved up and it's just... always there.
I stopped dreaming because of them, and now that I havent seen the people for like 7 months im starting to dream again so I dream about them and it sucks.
I dont think therapy will help, I cant even talk about it really. i mean, people ask me to explain but I just cant. I cant even remember the most of the year but it's just this overwhelming feeling of sadness and anger and I dont want it anymore. It's bad karma. It's eating me up inside.

write it down if u can't say it, like when you feel really pissed of/ hurt etc. just write down whatever your feeling.
i know thats probly not much help, but its some form of expression:o

I know what I've been through, and for me to write it down, so i can look back on it, only hurts me. I cant tell anyone because they've heard it over and over and it's gotten old. it's gotten old to me too but it wont go away. Which is why I want to find someone to MAKE it go away. I've seen hypnotists on TV who take people back in time, psychoanylsists (wtf i cant spell that) who dig into people's minds and find the source of thier problems in life, why the hell cant they pick out a few select people and make them go away? I dont want to remember them AT all.
but then you have to think, is it really better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all? and If I make it go away will i be diffrent?
I cant think of anything else happening to me besides a weight being lifted off my shoulders and me being able to dream easy at night.

well i meant write it down and tear it up, it helps me sometimes, but yeah each to their own i guess.
they can probly block really traumatic experieces but they're still there u just kind of train ur mind to i dno kind of avoid it. maybe u should call like a hypnotherapist or who ever, so u can like know for sure

over time... perhaps
yeah i think a hynotherapist could help. not to remove the memory, ala eternal sunshine (what an excellent movie, so moving) but to help it not be on your mind. like people do with smoking.
if your mother will pay for it, maybe you could travel for it.
should you do it? well, not remove the memory, as i'm sure whatever happened has taught you something and made you the person you are. you can't turn back time, but to get help so the memory isn't constantly on your mind.
good luck :(
