Nothing says "hit TV show" as does an obvious attempt to half-assed re-create something that has already been done and deemed a success. I mean, it worked for "That 80's Show," and "Joey" and the like, right? Trying to mimick the successes of one show by creating a newer and "fresher" show is BOUND to work.
Simply enough, you can't copy Jon Stewart and expect it to work. It ain't gonna happen. Everyone's going to compare the two and say how much the newer one sucks and is a shitty ripoff and all of that.

It's aired recently, apparently.

It's...pretty lame. Is that all they can dig on? Saying that Obama is popular? Wow, way to stick it to the man. The humor sucks, it reminds me more of Weekend Update on SNL, which is amateurish compared to the big boys down at the Daily Show.

the more right you go on the spectrum, the less funny the pretentious jackass is.
except satire. but that takes intelligence, which also decreases as you swing right...

Even the name is terrible: "Half Hour News Hour"...
Wow, contradiction is hilarious.
No wait, it isn't.
...
Shit.

I giggled a little bit over some of the jokes, but nothing really stood out. The jokes were kind of like watered down compared to the Daily Show. I wonder, if they turned it up a notch and maybe weren't afraid to cut deep like Stewart does, maybe they would have something interesting.

All I can really say is "nice try, but no cigar." The two news anchors had zero knack for comic timing in any way. This is even going with the optimistic assumption that the written text could be made funny.
Barack's middle name in college was "gassy"? I mean, who's the comedic genius who thought up THAT?
Conservatives are more than welcome to try their own "right"-leaning brand of Daily Show humor, and they're more than welcome to fall flat on their face while doing it. (y)

I think implying that conservatives can't be funny is a horrible generalization, and a little ignorant. Yes, this 'Daily Show' ripoff thing isn't the Daily Show that has been programmed into our heads as being hilarious (I guess some people never get tired of the same kind of jokes over and over and over), but choose your words carefully, my young Paduan.

TV sucks ass so much. If any of us were working in that medium I'm pretty sure this project would never seen anything beyond the shredder.
I would rather watch thumb wrestling.

I think they can be funny, but since they're conservative a lot of raunchy humor is off-limits. And a lot of raunchy humor is what makes it hilarious. Like Stewart saying "I will not rest until every year families gather to spend December 25th together at Osama's homobortion pot-n-commie jizzporium," or Colbert having a photoshopped picture of O'Reilly in what could be considered gay bondage, stuff like that.
I think a lot of humor like that is deemed unacceptable by the right (in particular, by it's Christian base) so they stick to "safe" humor. Liberals aren't afraid of making gross/outrageous jokes, so I find their brand of humor much, much funnier. I mean, have you ever heard Bible camp jokes? :( Let us never talk about this again.

If somebody would actually dress up as Jesus and interview celebrities I would be in. Say something along the lines of "Late Nite with Jesus Christ" tonights guest are Pat Robertson, Dennis Miller and musical guests the Beastie Boys.

For a moment, I kind of thought of conservative in simple political-policy terms, insted of a lifestyle!
I wonder though, if a conservative could retaliate to the Daily Show's constant knocks with equally raunchy humor, in terms of doing it and still maintaining the same morality. If they could I think I would watch that show and probably chuckle at the jokes they could make at the expense of liberals.

I'm sure there's cases (if so, please name 'em!) but I don't think comedy is a conservative's forte (specifically, today's brand of neo-con who follows the current lockstep GOP party line).
Oh and the South Park guys don't count, they're libertarian and seem to level extreme rage for both the left and right.
Also, if you're implying that Daily Show gives us the same jokes over and over, you need to stop smoking so much weed. Or start smoking weed. One of the two. :p

Much of David Letterman's monologue goes right the middle of political lines. He skewers Bush, Clinton's, Cheney and company pretty much on an even keel. It is true he is much kinder to Al Franken than Bill O'Reilly, but c'mon, O'Reilly is a fool and how can anyone suffer such hysterics as his knee jerk half cooked moronic ideas?
Avoiding political lines or having a neutral view on issues is the way to go.
John Stewart, Colbert just kick ass IMO, because not only do they attack the source of the problem, they also attack the people who we elected to be watchdogs on this idiocy. Meaning politicians, media and us, the voters.
Dennis Miller is a conservative comedian who creeps me out, he seems so much like a tool it's scary. His comedy is right wing lockstep style. Remember his Top 10 Myths about going into Iraq?
Then Al Franken who has actually gone out of his way to call a major right winger a "Big Fat Idiot" as a title to a best selling book? He is an extremely bright fellow who must now try and be not so funny. His other book that could cause a bit of political polarization is titled "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right" may add some fuel to his opponents speaking points. We'll see, it is going to be a great race for senator in Minnesota.
