....this isn't exactly "other music," but what the hell.
Let's talk about packaging.
One thing some boxed sets do that really get my goat is when they use just the cardboard sleeves for the CDs. I mean, these things are BUILT to scratch the CDs, practically. I understand that Japanese manufacturers have the little glaccine (?) sleeves inside the carboard sleeves -- that would be much better. All in all, I still prefer a jewel box or at least the foldout packaging with plastic hubs (and NOT so that the CDs overlap, folks-who-did-the-Faces-box).
Another thing that bugs me is when there are virtually no notes or booklets or anything. Motown did a really bad job with this in years past, sometimes packaging things so awkwardly that you couldn't just hold the CD case in your hand and know which track you wanted, because the info was printed on a slip of paper someplace else.
-- at least if you're going to do that stuff, do it like Trojan did -- three CDs with just track title, artist, and writing credit on each sleeve, and each box sold for the price of one CD. That's very cool, in its own way. (They recently jacked all theprices up, though, which is VERY uncool.)
