Pam and Kid Rock split up after 4 months.

You know, are there any Hollywood couples you can see actually lasting? Nowadays when I hear "celebrity wedding" I just guess on how long it will last.

It seems like the divorce rate of celebrities is 10 times higher than everyone else, but then I heard something like 70% of all marriages end in divorce now. Is that true? If so it may just mean that all marriages are like the fleeting celebrity marriages, it's just that since they're famous they're in the public eye and everyone knows.

I'm still an optimist and say they have an abnormally high divorce rate compared to everyone else.

I don't think celebrities divorce more than "normal" people.

I think your theory is one of them things like the fact that crime might actually be going down, but news programs report it more so people think it's actually going up. Of course, maybe not... and you could be right.

But that's my theory. Celebrities divorce just as much as us normals and it only seems like they divorce more because our society has fascinated itself with the daily trials and tribulations of these people who aren't any more important than anyone else.

I just spent 6 weeks apart from my b/f while he was filming a movie. It was very difficult to go from living together and being very involved in each other's lives to barely talking for 2 minutes a day. It made me very aware of how you truly have to work at your relationship all the time and it was scary at how fast you can grow apart when there's no quality time to stay in touch.

That being said, I can see how celebrities with varying levels of time together and then a lot of separation can end up divorced. Plus, there's so much downtime on the movie set, that it's probably easy to spark up a relationship with someone if that's what you're looking to do.

I almost wanna say that there's a thread about this already, but then I would have to go to the second page to get the link. So I'll be quiet.

Just about Pam/Kid or discussion about celebrity marriages in general? I figured someone already posted the news so I decided to add in discussion to make it different. I too am too lazy to find out if there's another thread.

I heard a fight about her involvement in Borat caused this.

I think a lot of it depends on the type of celebrity.
It seems the people that do a lot of divorcing are often the people who are tabloid fodder, but there are still slebs out there who do have long and happy marriages. It also seems we pay more attention to those who have already had high profile marriages, then divorces, which may in turn put more pressure on their relationships, so it all goes a bit chicken-egg.

There's also a lot less attention paid to successful marriages, like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward who have been married about 50 years, and Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash who were 35 years. Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker are about 10 years, which is good for these days.
As nice as that is, it doesn't sell magazines.

Call me a cynic, but I just can't see Tom Cruise's newest lasting, and that's not a comment on the relationship, more just what his track record is in these matters.
