View Full Version : Peeking at your Xmas presents before Dec. 25th...
Did any of you cheat and peek at your Christmas presents prior to Christmas Day? What did you get? Did it ruin the fun for you?
I did. On two different occasions, several years apart:
My mom had one hiding place under her bed. I found my Flashdance album and was excited, but terribly disappointed when Christmas Day arrived.
In high school, the FIRST time Uggs were popular and hard to get, I snooped in the new hiding place (mom's closet) to make sure she had secured a pair. I was relieved to find a pair sitting there in a bag. Christmas Day arrived and all hell broke loose when the pair was given to my brother instead.

a few years back i figured my ex was getting me an xbox. i didn't know for sure, but i was looking in the closet for something else, and caught a glimpse of a dvd-sized box that was neon green. i thought, oh shit. i had to pretend to not know for like a month.
Of course, since Christmas is on the 24th.

My mom makes me come up with wish lists for her... so I use Amazon to do it 'cause they basically have everything I could want on there, it gives her an idea of the price, and it also gives her a picture to look at to see what it's like.
I didn't know she was going to actually use Amazon to order some of the stuff though! So, one year the count on "number received" went up to one and my "number desired" went down to zero. I kind of spoiled my own surprise there, I guess.
But this year I noticed that you can hide that information... so I did this year. Hopefully I'll avoid any spoiled surprises now...

I'm too scared to peek...never try. I have been gifted some pretty cool stuff too. The element of surprise is one truly cool element...so cool I can't even find it on the perodic table of elements (http://periodic.lanl.gov/default.htm).
Only once did I figure out ahead of time a xmas present, which was actually one for the whole family, my dad was trying to hide a big screen TV out in the garage....I felt sort of shitty for finding it, but it was sort of obvious under a big old blanket.
Plus Santa says, "You'd better not peek" if you know whats good for you!

the year santa didn't leave me shit hurt, it hurt really bad...
when i was around 10 i drilled a tiny lil hole on my bro's present (a hole on the gift wrapping not actually the gift) & found out he got a PS2, i did the same with my present that year i couldn't figure out what it was but still i liked the surprise better

I think I found them one year by mistake. I was in high school and wanted to wear a pair of my mom's shoes, and went into her closet. I actually didn't think she would have put the presents in her closet, I had assumed she hid them somewhere in the basement.
But I am very impatient, and it took a lot for me as a kid to not go snooping! I am one of those people that has to pick up every wrapped gift and shake it and listen to it and sniff it to try and work out what's inside.
Mr.peachy on the other hand is really good; he never snooped or does any of that stuff, he's all like "nooo, it will ruin the surprise!"

I have on several occasions, wrapped my own presents from my parents. It was therefore pointless trying to act surprised.
I think I might have looked for them when I was very young I suppose.

I am terrible. I usually can figure out what things are before open them. Apparnetly this makes me "a real asshole!":(
HAHA me tooooo! I went up to the tree and said "Hey, it's my Ultimate Guide to Simpsons episodes! And my Curious George lunch box!" My mom told me to get the hell away from the presents, but I could see she was partially amused at the same time.

i would do the same, but we don't put presents out until the night before. everyone is sneaking out to the tree at various times during the night to plant their gifts, so there's no time to snoop or pick stuff up and shake it days in advance... i used to be jealous of friends who had their presents out in advance, but i like feeling like Santa just dumped stuff off on Xmas Eve.

kll, you're lucky you weren't arrested! see here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6213012.stm).
US boy held for opening Xmas gift
A South Carolina mother has had her 12-year-old son arrested for opening his Christmas presents early.
The boy was taken into custody after his mother discovered he had entered his great-grandmother's house and taken presents from their hiding place.
The boy was handcuffed and taken to a local police station on petty larceny charges.
The boy's mother, Brandi Ervin, told the Associated Press news agency she had acted to teach her son a lesson.
"He's been going through life doing things... and getting away with it," she said.
He had repeatedly taken the present, a Nintendo video game console, from its hiding place in his great-grandmother's house.
Hyperactive
The boy, who has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is already facing an expulsion hearing at his school for attempting to hit a police officer assigned to the school last month.
The boy's case will be presented to York County's Department of Juvenile Justice, which will decide what action to take.
Ms Ervin told the Associated Press she hoped the authorities could scare her son into behaving himself.
"It's not even about the Christmas present," she said.
"I'd rather call (the police) myself than someone else call for him doing something worse."

I used to peek pretty much every year. But it was kind of a "confirm the worst" sort of peeking: my parents asked me for a list each year and then totally ignored it. Reasonable stuff -- an album, a book, a model kit -- and they'd buy me stuff that wasn't "me" at all. It was fucking nuts.

I peeked once when I was around 7 and my mom caught me. She was like, "well, I guess I'll just take them back to the store and you won't get any presents this year!"
I was traumatized enough to never peek again. Although, I was pretty pumped that the gift I peeked was a cabbage patch doll with hair you could style. yuss! I was so afraid that she was going to return it, that I actually was surprised when I opened it on christmas. momma gave me a good-natured stink eye during that one.
