1. When they torture BRAVEHEART.
2. "It's not your fault, Will". It most certainly IS NOT, Will Hunting.
3. When Sonny Corleone gets shot about a million times.
4. When Carlito doesn't get "his way".
5. When farmer Hoggett is nursing Babe back to health and sings to him after Dutchess the Cat upsets him and he runs away and spends the night outside during a terrible storm.

There were plenty of disturbing scenes in Platoon, where you just feel sad due to the lack of human compassion in Matt Dillon's younger brother and you're all like wtf, man. But I only ever felt slightly emotional when Willem Dafoe is all "Wait for me, helicopter".
I didn't care when Bubba died. But when Mickey died in Rocky III, I felt it, man.

I can't understand a man crying over that scene. It's a good movie and a good scene, but it wasn't emotional for me at all, and I'm pratically a man.
I don't know if it would induce tears, but a real man has to get emotional over Donald Sutherland's speech to son Tim Hutton in Ordinary People where he tells his son that his mom was a cold bitch and nothing was his fault. That is one of the best scenes ever. Donald Sutherland might be the best movie dad ever.

The Champ with Jon Voight and Ricky Schroeder is a tearjerker.

I thought he was great in that movie. I just hate kid actors in general because they're so darned cute on talk shows. The fact that I cried over him playing a robot kid speaks to both his and Spielberg's talent. That scene killed me.
Guys can shed a tear over great moments in sports movies, any other reason is unacceptable according to
MAN-Law.
This is very true. I don't know what it is about guys and sports.
I dare any guy to watch Terms of Endearment and not shed a tear. Of course, getting a guy to watch it may be the problem.
The key to any of these movies is caring about a character in 2 hours..... enough to get wrapped up enough to let loose with the tears. Those talented few filmmakers and scriptwriters are really mindfuckers. Who knew that I would give 3 shits about Debra Winger?
Usually, it involves a very sad theme--dying being the most prevelent use of the tearjerker.
Speaking of sports movies.......a made for TV movie is the greatest man to baby film ever....Brian's Song featuring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams.

I cried,...from laughing!
Babe was a hustlin ass pig. And you're a tit.
Maybe Sonny Corleone getting shot up wasn't integral to my list afterall. I would probably replace it with a few scenes from Cinderella Man. Namely when Paul Giamatti's character starts talking all impassionate.
I thought Mystic River was pretty contrived. About as bad as Crash was. But there were some really good performances in that movie. And Sean Penn is so typically believable that I do tend to forget that he's acting a lot of the time. The end of Dead Man Walking was also pretty affecting.
I'm also comfortable enough with my man-ness to admit that when Cuba and Tom...um...hugged after the "big game" in Jerry Maguire, I felt a little....touched....sorta.

The end of Dead Man Walking was also pretty affecting.
...that's another movie that kills me.

I'm not a man so I should quit posting, but I love movies so I can't help it.
I watched Rudy last night (it was on HBO). The whole time I was watching it, I kept thinking it was really cheesey and way too hollywood. I was mad at Rudy much of the time and thought the best bit was when the lawn maintenance guy told him to pull his head out of his ass and realize that he was getting an education at a good school and football wasn't that important. I thought the whole story was fake and a bad fake. So I was highly surprised to find out it was based on a true story. :o
I was moved when the real football players put their jerseys on the coach's desk. That was more moving to me than the game.
I hope that in real life Rudy made more than one friend and had a bit of fun in college, because as a gal it seems really dumb to spend your whole college life trying to make one play in a game. :p
I was raised in a home full of sports. My dad played major league baseball for about a minute but spent time in the minors, then coached. My brother played big ten football and both my brothers were good at a lot of sports. My dad always talked frankly with me about the kids who focused too much on sports and who didn't have enough ability or the right body to make it. Like my friend's Irish Catholic trucker driving dad always said his youngest son was going to play basketball for notre dame, and my dad said it was never going to happen and my dad was right. So I probably have the wrong background for Rudy.

I happened to see Dead Man Walking at a matinee full of young women. They were loudly weeping at the end of the movie. My eyes were dry. I thought that Sean Penn was so believable as a super creep that I was sort of mad at the nun for supporting him.

I only like the original Rocky. It's a perfect movie.
I also loved Chariots of Fire. I think that's my favorite sports movie even though it's running and they're British.

I thought that Rudy was like The Natural. The guy was too old -- it could never happen in real life. I was floored when they ran the credits at the end and it was real. Also, it really bothered me that Rudy was going to Notre Dame (a school I couldn't have gotten into) and he didn't appreciate it except for the football. And he knew that he was no good so he was only going to play because the team was so far ahead.
Oh, I loved Miracle too. I don't know if that movie works for everyone, but as a Minnesotan who was a hockey loving teenager when that Olympics happened, I think that movie perfectly captured it. Herb Brooks is a god to people here, and Kurt Russell surprised me in pulling off a convincing Herb Brooks. Also all the guys playing the team were excellent.

When Ricky dies. And at the end when it says that Doughboy was shot.

Also the scene in "Crash" where the girl tries to take a bullet for her dad because he isn't wearing the "magic cape".... she is.

The last scene in Field Of Dreams when Kevin Costner asks his dad if they can play catch. I can NEVER NEVER EVER watch that scene without crying my eyes out.

It's cheesey, but that part in The Outsiders where they're at the hospital, and the brothers are all hugging Pony Boy, saying, "I thought we lost you just like Mom and Dad!" Yeesh.

i think i've recently estrogened out or something - more movies and tv shows make me cry than before. and i sometimes find little kids cute! christ! what is happening to my body?!
the same thing is happening to me. Perhaps it comes with age. I actually used to never really get in to babies "omg they are so cute" and all that. I'd feel completely out of my element when all girls were fawning over one and I'd stand there away from everyone like "uh? I'm supposed to be excited about this?"
Yeah. I didn't get in to it all until recently.
Also the scene in "Crash" where the girl tries to take a bullet for her dad because he isn't wearing the "magic cape".... she is.
Yeah...that got me.
And as much as people didn't like it and talk smack about it...I shed a couple of tears when Kong died in Peter Jackson's remake. In a packed theatre it was me and two 13 year old girls that were sitting a couple of rows ahead of me that had leaky eyeballs. That I could see at least. My dad busted my balls about that for a good while.
Oh, and a lot of Bollywood movies from the late 70's and early 80's get me all the time. No matter how many times I've seen them, they still turn me into a little bitch.

For different reasons entirely:
One scene that made my eyes tear up was the head-stomping scene in American History X. It was so horrifying; I had no idea that was something people actually do. One of those times when you get a glimpse of the depravity of man and it's just too, too much.
