It has an on-switch on the inside because actual people in the future don't use incinerators large enough to fit people in them. The incinerator was made specially for him to step in and get the skin off. Normally it runs automatically when the door is shut and the body is detected as leaving, but it has a manual override on the inside that came on the factory model they gypsy rigged into his apartment.
