belly got a wii for her birthday, and i'm trying to figure out what sort of things i should get for it as xmas gifts for her. i've heard that you can upload photos to it using your SD card from your digital camera or cell phone, but then when you go to the store, the wii specific SD cards don't look like they're usable with your digital camera. and my cell phone doesn't have an SD card, so that confuses the hell out of me.

and, when the internet is available with that, what special things are going to be required? and when is that coming out? the site only says "soon" and seems to give little to no information about anything, really.

very truly yours,
bethamphetamine

ok first thing, any sd card will work. The wii specific cards are just for uneducated folks. Pure marketing scheme.

The internet thing already works, if you have a wifi router then you can set it up using that. That way you can download Virtual Console games and use the news and forecast channel once they are available (dec 20th). There isn't an ethernet plug in the back so if you do not have a wifi router, then get the USB Wifi adapter (http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?currency=USD&storeId=10001&jspStoreDir=NOASTORE&productId=95704&categoryId=11157&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&ddkey=SetCurrencyPreference). That way you will still be able to update the wii (which has happened 2 times already, just firmware) and for the wii channels and VC.

I would recommend Rayman Raving Rabbids and Excite Truck for right now. It comes with Wii Sports so that should be plenty for a while.

Nope, only once.

Nope, only once.
Looking at that nintendo shop, if you don't have a wireless router, it's easy enough to share the connection with your p.c? Is that what I'm reading? Bearing in mind I'm in Australia, and have to pour kerosene into the telephone and dial numbers with a crankshaft.

haha. I live in tasmania, our medicine men are working round the clock to keep my internet running. Do you know how many hearts it burns through?

Why buy a wii when I can just channel my spirit and steal nastey's or boomin's?

haha. I was almost burned at the stake for mentioning the internet.

I wonder if it's just a case of getting a wii, and being online straight away. Like if it's easy or not. Pres, didn't you say it was free or something?

Nastie has pretty much guaranteed it. She promised me that it was free.

She will pay dearly is she is wrong.

We could shift this conversation to the official thread and nobody would notice, I bet.

hahaha!

the wii internet browser (opera) will be free to download before summer 2007. this fact is recorded in wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Browser), so it must be true.

so basically, you should get your wii before summer 2007 and you won't have to pay for opera. and even if you didn't, i'd imagine it'd only be like 30/40 bucks or something to buy it.. it's the same thing they have for the ds, ya know, and that's around that price.

so it's a one off price, and you don't have to pay for browsing/monthly fees or anything. just the software.

i wish it was me who bought it, but it was more than i had the budget for. her father bought it for her, and bought her super monkey ball and happy feet. she has about 8 trillion game cube games, and i think i'll let others know about the game selections boomin suggested.

boomin, thanks for the info. my router got fried during a storm, so their father is buying another one to replace it. so, if that one doesn't work too well, then we'll get her the wifi adapter as a stocking stuffer. i got them digital cameras for christmas, so it's nice to know the sd cards for that will work fine.

eventually I will get one of these but Im not interested in paying anything over $249.99 for one. Besides, the initial run of games are teh suck.

its been a good 5 years since ive been interested in computer games proper, but this thingymajig had raised an interest in me. i must work out a way of getting one for free.

question tho: i assume there is a proper/normal control pad? i dont fancy having every game being all shaking the remote...?

Rayman, Happy Feet, Spongebob, Open Season...they're great Wii choices for the younger crowd. I'm personally enjoying Rayman though, it can appeal to all audiences.

The Photo Channel is quite cool, I've been playing around with it.
