Is what I've been playing lately. Excellent graphics, voice overs and mainly, I love how they remade the battle system.
Finally, instead of walking along and bam, you're in a fight, you can see the monsters or enemies you're about to battle. Also, you can move about during the battle rather than staying stationary with turn based attacks.
The fighting is still turned based but it's so much different than previous FF titles.
In order to obtain your skills or magicks, you must acquire a license for them. It's kinda similar to the "spheres" in FFX and also, there's a new thing called "gambits" which allow your partners in your battles against enemies to execute different moves such as attacking the nearest enemy or providing aid to the first ally that has under 70% health.
I'm currently 30 hours into the game, mainly because I just keep on going to the desert and having battles so that I can gain xp and build my character.
The only things that I dislike about the game is that it's getting kinda long and drawn out. I've accomplished alot of missions and such but I still haven't gotten simple magicks such as firaga. Another thing, the designers, as always, make the characters look extremely gay with the outfits they've designed for them.
I actually really want a copy of final fantasy 8 for the winter but i can't fucking find it.

I've got a copy of that for ps1 but it doesn't work. One of the disks is extremely fucked- scratched all to hell and I've tried using the c.d. doctor to fix it and it still doesn't work.

at least it's not as bad as FFX (lulu apparently must have gone to hot topic and cleared out the belt rack, and tidus...let's not talk about tidus). and balthier may look a little fruity, but he's a pimp. literally, he's a pimp
i definitely enjoy the fact that random battles are gone, but honestly i'm not that thrilled about the battle system. i liked FFX's system better, i don't really like the gambit system, i preferred giving actual commands to my party members. i also enjoyed the flat out turn-based system more, the active timer battle thing is too fast for me. i also don't really like the license system. every character can fulfill every role, but i kinda don't like it that way. i preferred FFX's system, where every chracter had a specific role, your job was just to figure out the best way to use it. whereas here, you have to both invent the roles and figure out how to use them. i'm terrible at building characters, i like to have some direction. the license board is too open-ended for me.
i dunno, i want to get into it, but i'm having trouble. i quit playing at some desert place, i was doing ok, running around, killing some dudes that look like the sand people from star wars, and suddenly i blunder across this gigantic fireball that's like 20 levels stronger than me. it wasn't immediately hostile, it had a green life bar, which i thought meant it would leave me alone as long as i didn't attack it. but then, when i started a fight with some nearby enemies, the bastard attacks me with a firaga spell that literally wiped out all 3 members of my party in one hit. i pulled in my other 3 guys and tried to run, but obviously, that didn't work, the thing just one-shotted me again. so that sucked.
maybe i'll give it another try, i dunno. basch seemed cool.

I'm with you compeletly Bob. I mean, as I've said, the licenses. I've "bought" every license for black magicks but yet, I've just got "fire" rather than fireaga or any other stronger magicks. For the amount of time I've spent in the game, trying to use good judgement in my licenses, I'm still weak.
I went ahead and accepted some bills from these petetioners. The first ones were hard and now, all I'm trying to do is beat a damn oversized chicken with it's 3 chicks and I get my ass beat everytime.
I'm thinking that this game is made for the nerds who have a game chair that consists of form fitting ass sweat and mold.
haha maybe, yeah. it just seems like you have to fuck up a lot before you learn what to do (IE, spending too much LP on new abilities instead of augmentations...it's no good having the license for weapons and magic you can't buy yet, and now you're weak because you've been neglecting your stats). and the gambit system seems like it takes a while to learn, too. i'm really just not that patient, i don't feel like investing the time quite honestly. i wish there was an easy mode, the story seems kinda cool.
I hear incredible things about the story. But to sum up the game for others I hear the first 30 hours are great and then it's back to leveling up like crazy. Ah, you're kind of doing that now, huh?
I'm getting this as a Christmas gift and now I've got to Re-up my response gift accordingly. Bye bye, free time.
I started this sometime ago, but haven't gotten too far....agreed, it's loads of fun when you get into the thick of the gameplay. It's interesting how....FOR ONCE, this is an FF without a love story...rather, it's politically driven. And man....the cities and dungeons are immense. Moreso than any other FF.
OH YEAH....gambits ftw. I thought I'd hate them and never use them, but I'm looking forward to starting to use them. Cause inputing manual commands gets annoying after the 50th battle, k.

Once again the BBMB suprises me by talking about exactly what I'm doing. (y) Got the game about a week ago and have been making my way through it ok. I can never decide who to give what abilities. The leveling up system is almost too open for me.
I think I still have my FF8 sitting around somewhere, might need to bust that out soon.

I get annoyed adjusting stat points to my characters. It takes long and I'm not sure what use will it do later on too. All I do is try to level them in the same digits.

I love Final Fantasy 8. Its totally different from the other titles of the serie.
And it also has one of the most amazing and devastating attacks in the world of video games. The Limit Break "Lion Heart" from Squall. Damn, that attack is fucking insane.
If Im not mistaken, he does around 25-26 attacks of 9999 damage each. Now, is this a lot of damage or what?
