She had a migraine for the last 4 or 5 days which would get worse as the day went on towards the evening. She's also thrown up a few times waking up in the morning. Then today she was on an underground train and she felt a lot of pressure at the back of her head and she said she felt dizzy and got off the train and went to the street to get some air and she felt dizzy and confused and just didn't know where she was... she went to the doctor and he said she had lost her balance but he didn't know what was wrong so now she's going to hospital.

I'm no doctor, but it sounds to me like she has vertigo.
On April 2005 it happened to me that I had low blood-pressure, I was on work and I fainted, or on the bus (usually near lunch time, after 4 or 5 hours that i was on work....even if I had a good breakfast and something else to eat in the middle of the morning), and just before faintin' I was feelin' vertigo ....the only thing that helped me was eatin' some chocolate or pure sugar when i was feelin' like that (I had my bag full of candies all the time) and after a while it stopped by itself....I gave the fault to the atmospheric conditions because all suddenly last year the weather became WARM and humid with no gradual transition from the quite cold temperature of February-March... like it was June or July but it was April-May....so.... maybe she could have a little problem like this...I hope so!

My mom got really sick with similar symptoms last year. Basically the doc told her she needed to slow down, not take on so much and relax a bit. She actually was forced to take time off work and do nothing. Just a thought though

When is she going to the doc? I am sure she will be OK. I dated plenty of women that smoked and took the pill. They never got pregnant and their clothes smelled like Phillip Morris.

She went to the doctor, he couldn't diagnose and sent her straight to the hospital. She's there now as far as I know.
Are you going to visit her? I am sure she is fine. My best wishes to her.

my friend was on the pill and still smoked weed and she got a blood clot in her lung and ended up int he hospital
now she can never take birth control again and due to the blood thinner medication she is on she cant eat any leafy greens

You should go today. Just in case she is there. Can't you call her mum or roommate or someone that knows what the deal is? Or even the local hospitals?
Hospitals suck. You probably will really make her day if you just show up today and get bonus points for going when you weren't even sure if she was there or not.

The good part is that she's getting a scan, and so totally in the system. I had a patient with a tumour the size of a plum on the back of her eye, who only found that out after waiting in agony for three months for her scan.
Anything that somes on quick and is dealt with quick is a lot better than stuff that niggles for years, and is treated slowly, and then it's too late.
I have nursed three patients who have had blood clots due to smoking on the pill, all three lost their left legs, oddly enough.
It would be unprofessional of me to go out on a limb and say that your girlfriend's symptoms and the pill thing are not linked, but the chances are, if there was a blot clot in her brain, she would have had a stroke. This could well be something completely different.
Take comfort in the fact that she is in the right place and being taken seriously.

I just been up at the hospital all afternoon, the CAT scan came back clear, which is very very good news. They took a spinal fluid sample, it came out clear (not blood stained, which is also good news) but they won't get the results from it til tomorrow morning.
Hospitals are horrible places. Luckily (if you could call it luckily) I spent about a month of days in one a couple years back when my father became very ill, so I was prepared for the grimness. She on the other hand has never been admitted before, so she's been in and out of tears pretty much the whole time she got there due to stress/loneliness/fear. :((n)
I'm sorry to hear. Don't worry, she'll recover. Having support by you is a remedy in itself to someone.
