View Full Version : What to do...

A temp agency set me up with a job interview last tuesday. The job sounds pretty interesting, the pay is what I'm looking for, and it's temp to hire, meaning I'd be temping with the company for about 2-3 months with the potential to be hired on as a permanent employee. The lady who interviewed me told me I was perfect for the position, and I left the interview feeling very confident that I got the job. She did say, however, that the schedule was a bit uncertain and that she couldn't give me a definite date that I'd be starting. She assured me that she would get in touch with my rep at the temp firm as soon as she had more information about the timeline and my start date.
Well, it's been almost a week and I still haven't heard anything. I called my rep the day after the interview (last wednesday), and she had not yet been contacted by my interviewer. I called her again last friday, and she still had no word. She did tell me that my interviewer's husband is going through radiation therapy, so her schedule is a bit erratic, which could be the reason she hasn't contacted the temp firm. She said that this company is not the type that would leave anyone hanging, but it's now monday, and I still got nothin'.
Should I call my interviewer directly or just twiddle my thumbs and wait to hear from the temp firm? Is 6 days a reasonable amount of time to wait after an interview without hearing a definite answer, or is it too long? Should I just let it go and start applying elsewhere? What would you do?

So you think I should call the chick who did the interview?

I dunno, maybe go ahead and try to call directly. It'll probably show that you've got some desire to work for them and it'll also probably remind them TO GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND HIRE YOU!!
I'm in the same boat right now except I've been waiting almost 3 weeks for my backgound check to clear and they won't call me to give me the status so, I've got to call them back at least 2 times a week just to hear them tell me that the check isn't cleared yet.
I'm not hired by a temp agency. It's a security company that takes contracts and sends security officers to work for companies wherever they're needed.
I was sent to a place, had an interview, was told that he needs people asap. The security company I'm employed by said I have to wait and I've been waiting.
I'm getting tired of this and I'm about to go find a different job. I'm thinking if they don't have my background check cleared by this week, I'm going job hunting again.

Yeah sure why not...I don't think it could hurt. Just explain that you are very interested and such...

It sucks big time, eh?
I'm giving this whole deal until the end of the week, too. I really want this job, but I need money and I can't wait forever.

Indeed it does. I really want this job too and if they've found somebody before my background check clears then what the hell am I supposed to do. After I've been offered the job already?
I'm worried that if I apply for another job and get hired, it'll take the same amount of time if they need to do a search on me. It's probably the only thing keeping me from looking for another job right now.
I mean seriously, they should keep you up to date at least. Tell you that they need you or something.

Never have one poker in the fire.
Continue looking for a job and if they call suddenly, good times.
Never rely on a job to actually come through untill it does.
Plus, lets say you find something else. Then they call. Then you can ask them to pony up more dough.
Run on sentences.

give em a ring a ding ding
totally
I dealt with a temp agency in Philly. They suck. If it is possible for you to cut out the middle man, do so. Plus, it will show your would-be employer that you like to take initiative. No negative effects there.

INTERNET PROJECTION VOLUME II LOLOLOL :oChinese water torture would be preferrable to waiting for the follow up here. How many jobs do you have?
On a related note, how long until currency bearing the likeness of Reagan is introduced?

2.
The above referenced situation was never fully resolved, so I was never offered the position I interviewed for. However, the temp agency offered me an internal position with them and hired me directly as an administrative assistant. I'm answering phones, entering applications, setting up testing, etc. I was told from the jump that a promotion won't be far off if I do a good job, so that's cool and shit. I've been training 2-3 days a week for the past 3 weeks, and I'm starting full-time monday-friday tomorrow. :)
I've also been serving for the past month and a half or so at this restaurant down the street from our apartment, just to keep me afloat while I looked for something more full-time. I'll still be working one shift on the weekends for extra money.

ON A RELATED NOTE LOL CURRENCY PUN LOL.
In answer to your question, not soon enough.
