errrggghh.

you eat them because your nan made a whole tray just for you. They are too sweet, and they taste like sick. The ones in a packet are worse.

I wonder why I keep eating them?

hahaha. mince pies are over-rated. seriously.

i generally don't like anything too raisin and mince-based. wedding cake. gross. fucking hate it. other various fruit cakes. DUNDEE CAKE! christmas pudding. we normally get a nice thorntons toffee christmas pudding and i cover it in all those alcoholic creams so it sorta drowns the raisins and sultanas out. also, i still force my mum to shove money into it so i'll gladly choke on a spoonful of christmas pudding for my pound.

mince pies are pretty shite though. unless they are hot. i don't like pastry an awful lot.

although, i was in somerfield t'other day and i saw mincepies with a marzipan topping. i might just try them. also, i have tried mince pies with a dab of marscapone/philadelphia (trust me) as a top layer and it's quite nice. try it.

My Mum home cooks everything at Christmas, it's always a top feast but I can't stand mince pies, they are horrible.

Everyone else in my family eats them like some sort of Festive delicacy, I don't get it though. They taste like shit.

taste's like dogfood.

Some kinds of dogfood actually look appealing to me. Chum extra chunky for example.

I dig pate. It's wicked and bad on crackers.

I'd much rather eat that than mince pies, just out of politeness, everywhere I go this festive season. :(

*Edit* I dont eat pet food...

around and about. youknow. staring blankly into space and such.

i must say the age old pasty issue is a lot more clear, now that i know your feelings on mince pies. it all falls into place. :)

ehehe. you know, i'm thinking it must be a denseness-of-pastry thing. i like sausage rolls. they have soft, flaky pastry. i dislike cornish pasties and apple pie and mince pie and.. pie and all of that and they are made of hard, buttery pastry. be still my heart! i think i've found the answer.

pate, though. man. i must have eaten a shatload of pureed meat and liver the past few weeks.

when we went to paris we had a lot of foie gras and i thought it was delicious. we bought the teeeeeeniest, tiniest pot to take home as it was fucking expensive but still worth the money. now, i've done some research on pate and i've found out it's made from the livers of force-fed fat geese! (!) omg! i just thought it was fancy-pants plain ole livers of.. whatever. not forefed. so it's actually illegal in several countries. woops. sorry.. forcefed geese. it was nice while it lasted.

My dad's mince pies are the best - I find shop bought ones too sweet. He makes them with the mincemeat and then adds in fresh apples from the garden so they don't feel like your teeth are rotting as you eat them.

Stollen also rocks.

Getting back to mince pies, I like them, but only the cheap ones, with a small mince to pastry ratio, and no big lumps of peel, and no alcohol.

I got some bottom of the range, nearly out of date ones in ASDA in Feb, 10p per pack, bloody fantastic.

so, i've been researching mince pies (shut up) and apparently english tradition demands that the mincemeat mixture should only be stirred in a clockwise direction! otherwise, it will bring bad luck for the year. nivvie, i hope your cheapo asda mince pies were at least stirred the right way!

also, apparently it is also traditional to make a wish when eating your first mince pie of the season. oh, and they should always be eaten in silence! fucking attitude of these mince pies, seriously!

I ate so many of the damn things when they were cheap, and now it appears they have been the root of all my bad luck (I'm guessing industrial food mixers alternate in direction).
Damn English.

I asked my Mum about the stirring thing earlier when i was on the phone.

True fact she says, she also stirs the Christmas Pudding mix in one direction only.

I dont really like Xmas Pud much either... Still it gets set on fire with some warm brandy so at least it provides some pyrotechnics...
