you learn something new everyday...pro-ana (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16098915/site/newsweek/)
Dec. 7, 2006 - Drink ice-cold water ("your body has to burn calories to keep your temperature up") and hot water with bullion cubes ("only 5 calories a cube, and they taste wonderful"). When a food craving strikes, give yourself a manicure ("applying extra layers of slow-drying polish. It will keep your hands occupied"). These kinds of tips are common fare in the growing world of "pro-ana" (pro-anorexia) and "pro-mia" (pro-bulimia) Web sites. More than 200 such sites now cater to the estimated .5 to 1 percent of adolescent and adult women who are anorexic and to the 1 to 2 percent who are bulimic.

i used to cruise around on these back in my teenage years. i never had a proper meal from the age of 14-18. but i don't blame the websites, western society in general is pro anorexia.
anorexia makes ya sexier.
well not really......but i like saying that...cause it kind of rhymes.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! (y)
But serious, who suffers from anorexia should at least start a campign to feed the poor. They could give them their food. They don't eat it anyway.

I've got two friends struggling with bulemia now. It's really hard to deal with, because it's a psychological disorder that they developed. It came about when they were younger and didn't know any better. When you're 10, you hardly think of the reprocussions on your body. You get addicted to it quite easily, too. My one friend checked herself into a clinic recently to help herself get better.
I don't think anyone realizes just how serious it is, and it's not just a bunch of "dumb girls." It's just like any other addiction. The addiction itself may be stupid, but the ones I know definitely are not - it's a serious problem they're trying to overcome.
Edit: Unless you're talking about the ones who relish their disorder and are proud of what they're doing. They're a bunch of dumb broads, cuz the ones online should be old enough to know what they're doing is destructive, and it's a terrible thing to fuel others on in your unhealthy ways.

I like how everything on this board is such a Ha Ha LOL jokey joke, until one of the topics hits too close to home, and people get all serious.
I don't mean to pick on you D, and I won't, becasue you've always been cool in my book, but I see this happening all too often.

I'm thinking everyone is talking about the those types. I mean, the titles of the books that cookie pointed out.
They're asking for it.

I just feel those celb women are like poster children for pro-ana type sites, and they are obviously suffering from the illness, but they are what many young woman are looking up to. and I think everyone knows I'm fairly unforgivning of celebrities in general because wanting to be famous means living in the public eye no matter how unfair or scrutinizing. you want the priviledges that go with being famous? then you will scrifice something for it, like it or not....but this is a whole other tangent. I'll stop editing this shit now...
and when you read the article further it talks about the photos they post of actresses as "thinspiration"(n)

I knew they were fake. I just worry about the real people. Celebs have all the money in the world and they can afford counseling for it whereas the less fortunate people are suffering and probably can't afford it.

no kidding. but the sadest thing is that even though the celebs have the money to get help, I don't see most of them working too hard at it. Nicole richie went to rehab (said to be eating disorder related) and left with in 48 hours because she wanted to go shopping or some shit. I kinda doubt she was cured in 48 hours. it's shameful if you ask me.
ps. I figured you knew that, but the way yu said it might have confused others so I was just putting the disclaimer out there. :)

No, I agree, but that's the thing though. If it was a joke, I wouldn't give a shit. If people made some kind of jokey comment, I let it roll off my back and I'm not sensitive about it. I have a good sense of humor about things and I'm not going to yell at someone for making a joke, such as NLOL did in this thread (which I did lol at btw). It's just when they say something that I interpret as an insult to the girls themselves that I get offended.
