That speaks for itself.(y) (y)
finally.
every asshole who thinks they're clever by saying "then we shall fight in the shade" will have the rug pulled out from under them
i love frank miller
i'm also a pretty big fan of classical shit
i also dig violence
i'm looking forward to this
I wasn't impressed. There's too many medieval war movies being made.
such as?
also it's not medieval
I can't think of anything right now, but it's just another war movie. My senses are being dulled by them. It just doesn't look interesting enough to watch.
Edit: I was thinking about it, and there has been Troy, and Gladiator. Granted, they debuted years back, but still.
i dunno it's a fairly interesting story (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae)
but the movie isn't even really about the battle, it's a film adaptation of a graphic novel by frank miller (writer and i think possibly artist of sin city, which was also a film and graphic novel). notice how some of the characters look fairly monstrous, it's not going to be a historical piece

neither of those movies are medieval
Ah, King Leonidas. I know of him. We used to own a small bronze statue of him, holding a spear.
neither of those movies are medieval
I take back the word medieval. I meant to say war movies in general.
i dunno i guess i just have a soft spot for the classical period
it's this sort of blend of history and mythology. this particular fight is a good example of that blend. and it's not even a documentary, it's a movie based on a graphic novel based on the historical battle, so i dunno, it's a good story, and good stories make good movies, that's all i'm saying. it's like the lord of the rings, only with people

Does it have anything to do with High School or college football? No? Then it doesn't matter.
Really though, I've been wanting to see this since I saw the preview a few months back.
I'm with you. I like the fantasy type war movies, with like winged-people, or monsters. What have you.

I think that this was one of the trailers that ran before The Departed a couple of months ago. I remember thinking that it looked excessive/retarded. As in, way too exaggerated to actually be any good. But for some reason I actually want to see it now.
I though that both Troy and Gladiator were entertaining, despite the obvious flaws with both. I enjoyed them.
Excessive, flagrant, retarded. Just like Flava of Love. And wasn't that good?
We need more stupid movies like this. Speaking of, there's supposed to be another Rambo movie depending on how good Rocky Balboa does. Um, I guess that's another example.

So in other words there won't be another Rambo movie.

And I appreciate plenty of retared/excessive movies. For example, I just watched the entire Mummy trilogy this week. Granted, I watched it at my desk while I was at work. Inidentally, I actually watched Troy again just today. At work.
I also watched Alexander last week, the 'Director's Cut'. At work. That movie still sucks, though.
I shouldn't even comment on films period. I stopped watching them sometime ago. The same applies to cable television. Except for Nick-at-Nite and TV Land!

well like
did you see sin city? did you like sin city? take that theme and apply it to ancient greece, that's what you're getting here
i never saw alexander, i don't intend to, i heard it was horrible
i'm one of maybe 3 heterosexual men who liked troy, though

The fight scene between Achilles and Hector was very well-done. As were most of the action sequences, in general. Sure, some of the acting sucked, but who really knows what kind of accents Spartans and Trojans had anyway?
I own the deluxe version of Sin City. Don't know why, though, because I didn't really like it that that much.
Alexander was pretty stupid. You see a lot of Rosario Dawson's juggs in it, though.

I enjoyed that fight much. That was probably my highlight of the movie.
They should have just called Troy "Brad Pitt's Ass". It probably would have made a little more money.

yeah, the achilles/hector scene i thought was pretty sweet. even orlando bloom managed to not be ridiculously gay. and i've read the aeneid, so i enjoyed the nod they made to it at the end, on an elitist level
every time my male friends go through my DVD collection and they find troy in it, they call me gay, but i mean seriously, for a guy who COULD make his way through hollywood based only on his looks, brad pitt's a damned good actor, seriously

The proof is in the pudding: Snatch, Fight Club, Se7en, Sleepers and 12 Monkeys were all, more or less, geared towards normal hetero dudes, I think. And even though I hate both Ocean's 11 and 12, he does a fine job in those movies, too.
But yeah, his ass was all over Troy. The OTHER highight of the movie.
that looked interesting. (y)

Since when were spartan's fighting for freedom? Still, looked good, and I have a crush on Greek History.
I've been wanting to see a movie about Battle of Thermopylae ever since i heard about it in grade 10 history back in high school. I can't see this movie doing anything but being deadly......but alexander was a terrible movie, and it was all about huge battles too, so you never know....
Same guy is also gonna direct Watchmen.
So Alan Moore will get to be pissed off again.

Moore's comics seem harder to translate to the big screen, yet I don't know any other Miller stuff that could be done at all. His works on Batman and Daredevil have influenced those movies already. But 300 should be good.
P.S. Preacher will be a TV series...

that looks pretty bad ass. Anything Frank Miller, but how much of a hand did he play in the making of this movie other than them using his story?
Visuals look pretty amazing.
I'll be going to see it regardless.

this is gonna be awesome. i can't wait
Frank is listed as an Executive Producer according to imdb.com, Crys. Maybe only to make sure they don't fuck it up too much? I'm expecting good things.
Someone had posted some movie posters that were used to promo the film in the UK. Google it if you're interested. I can't find the link at the moment.
i just watched it again (trailer) - i wanna see this at the cinemas so bad.

the new fantastic four trailer looks good too.. even though the last f4 movie was terrible.

apparently they tried to cast simon pegg (shaun from shaun of the dead, tim from spaced) to play rorschach, but he turned it down, becuase he was afraid of getting typecast, that people would say "simon pegg IS rorschach!"
i have a feeling he was joking (you don't see his face for most of the story), but i'm glad he declined, that seems like a weird casting choice. i love simon pegg, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't look like rorschach, and his voice is certainly not the voice i have in my head when i read his lines.

yeh doesnt seem gruff and menacing enough.
yeah, they're funny in two very irreconcilably different ways
after seeing V for Vendetta, i'm really not excited about the idea of a Watchmen movie. i LOVE watchmen, it's probably my favorite book, graphic or no, and i didn't think the V for Vendetta movie was BAD, but...i dunno, it just really didn't do the graphic novel justice, v for vendetta's plot just really didn't lend itself to a movie format. the movie did as well as it could have been expected to do, but it still fell far short of the graphic novel.
watchmen is about 10,000 times better than v for vendetta, so i'm just afraid that the movie is going to fall proportionately shorter
but if it encourages a few people to read watchmen, i guess i can't complain
and of course i'll go see it regardless
