i used to like a lot of the djs mentioned in the first post. well, except deep dish. never really liked them for whatever reason. but i went to see james zabiela play not so long ago and i realised that i was really bored. so i dont go dancing to that kind of stuff anymore. i still like it for sitting at home listening. i often listen to michael mayer/swayzak/tiga dj mixes. they can be very nice. james holden too. VERY NICE. not for dancing though. it's all too serious for dancing.

oooooold skool electronic band: Tangerine Dream (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?search-alias=popular&field-keywords=&field-artist=tangerine+dream&field-title=&field-label=&field-binding=&chooser-sort=rank%21%2Bsalesrank&mysubmitbutton1.x=0&mysubmitbutton1.y=0) (they were around way before their contribution to the Risky Business soundtrack). Rubycon and Phaedra seem to be the most talked about by reviewers. IIRC many of their tunes are very long so those samples won't tell you much.

Is there a criteria of what falls under "electronic"?

I like lots of stuff that could fit, or could almost fit if we wanted to stretch it.

But if we're talking shit like Tiesto, no thanks. Tiesto sucks.

As a dutch person I deeply apologise for Tiesto. He's a shitehead.

I really like Jamie Lidell. I like his soul songs, but the stuff he does live...wow.
He samples his own voice. He starts by humming a bassline, then does some weird screechy vocals, adds some beatboxing... He's really amazing and if you ever get the chance to see him live you should.
(Don't be 'put off' by the multiply album. On stage he's nothing like that. I've seen him and lots of people were confused by the weird bleeps and bloops and were pissed off that he didn't play his 'hits'. hehe.)

Oh, and 'Daddy's Car' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBhcaDqaS9E) is one of the sexiest songs ever.

Trans Am (http://www.transband.com/transam.php). This band fits their name so well being that almost every song sounds like the Knight Rider theme music.

tiesto now, i pretty bloody ordinary, but tiesto's Magik series are friggin great. i haven't seen him in a couple of years now, but i have seen him 3 times and i've never been dissapointed. the biggest let down that i've ever seen would easily be fatboy slim. he should stick to being a producer, not a live dj (n)

i never really like deep dish until i heard their Moscow Global underground cd, which has to be one of the best cds i own. the one swayzak song i've heard is State of Grace off a sanderkleinenburg cd and it's a great chilled out. do you know if they've got any essential mixes or breezeblocks floating around out there?

Miss Kittin
Felix Da Housecat

miss kittin, hahahah. she's a bit weird but great. i love her Frank Sinatra song, funny shit. i friggin love Felix too. i've seen him twice but never seen a full set. first time was cut short to see AVB and 2nd time was to see the Beasties. i've got kittin and the glitz and devon dazzle and the neon fever. both good cd's

Sometimes they fall outside the electronic boundaries, but most of the time they're electronic to the tits, baby

Theres some obvious ones like daft punk, kraftwerk, chemical brothers, fatboy slim, aussie legends like gerling, sonicanimation, the avalanches (yes they are still going!) etc

Some of my favourite international acts right now include:

Justice
Surkin
Digitalism
Mstrkrft (I loved DFA1979 but mstrkrft do such mad remixes I hold no grudge at their formation being responsible for DFA1979's demise)
Soulwax and 2manydjs
Tiga
Simian Mobile Disco
Trentemoller
Switch
Hot Chip
Tocadisco
Freeform Five
Para one
The Knife
Mason

Represent the Aussie electro icy! All the stuff you listed is international but we've got some fantastic electro-house djs going around right now.

Van She and Van She Tech
Acid Jacks
Ajax
Midnight Juggernauts (live and as djs and remixers)
Cut copy
Presets (and Kim by himself)
Riot in belgium
Sneaky Sound System
Tonite Only

oh yeah i've liked a couple of aussie dj's for about 5 years. typical ones like Kid Kenobi who always puts on a bloody good show. and Bexta too but i've had about 10 opportunities to see her but only seen her spin once due to other acts being on. and there's a ton of brissy dj's i like too like Jen-e and Russian on Percussion. lots of them seem to work at Central Station. it's good to have a chat with them every now and then
