Board games are always a decent option when you plan on having people over for some fun. What kind of board games do you fancy?

I liked Scrabble until I played it online. People know all the bullshit words and crap shortcuts that are technically acceptable.

I don't remember any specific examples, but I lost like 4 challenges to 3 letter acronyms that count as words. Quit playing after day 1.

I play poker online and this vast wasteland of imbeciles can ruin a perfectly fine game. People go all-in with nothing and suck out. I usually play my wife in scrabble. She is a smart woman and we have some close games. I am leading the long running series. She does piss me off sometimes because she will actually sneak peek a word in the dictionary. This is in direct violation of the rules and I should be allowed to pummel her with the Crown Royal bag full of wood squares.

The ones I play regularly with my friends are...

Pit! (best game ever)
LOTR Risk
Star Trek Interactive VCR Board Game (yes, it's true)

There was a great one we found called Group Therapy where it would tell you to do things like rock in someone's arm making whimpering noises, and everyone else would have to vote if you were actually "with it" or something

I was crowned King of Bavaria in Settler of Catan. I rule that game so hard that people don't want to play against me anymore.

Play it too often, and you don't want to play it anymore yourself. Even all those expansions will not help. But it is a fun game for 2-3 yrs. At the time I played it, everyone in the country played it, parents, gfs parents, everyone... OVERKILL of Catan!

i'm a scrabble master. ohhhh yeeeaahhh.

we can never play monopoly in my family because it ends up lasting for, like, 36 hours and people start stealing money and hiding it in their jeans and putting it in the wash and bribery begins and ohhh, it's a mess.

i also like articulate.

Incest! (A game for all the family)

Good game! My hot 2nd cousin never wants to play. My butt ugly Aunt Edna is always up for a game and she always buys Whore Island. If you land on that forsaken Island you not only have to pay with funny money you have to pay with your dignity.

The only ones I got now are Monopoly, Risk, Chess (got a nice shot glass version too) and Scrabble.

The best one I ever played though was called "Colditz", the board was in 4 parts and 1 person went the German officers and the rest were escapees. It had tunnels and rope and shit and really was just the best board game ever.

"SHOOT TO KILL!" Haha!

It's probably deemed far to racist to be played by kids in this day and age...

I never knew the real rules for monopoly and never ended a match. :o

The 'real' rules involved a bunch of crap like auctioning properties and stuff that no one ever does.

I always sold or traded property immunities to people, or bought people's "right to purchase" a property in advance to secure monopolies. My brother always yells at me when we play - but that doesn't mean he won't still trade immunities with me if it's to his advantage.

Backgammon
Scrabble

...I wish I could really "get" chess so I could become a good player. I know how to play, but I'm talking about really knowing how to play.

Then, among the other games... I like 'em all, pretty much. Scattergories, Pictionary, Risk, Life, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, Battleship, that turquoise one I can't remember.

Kerplunk, Mouse Trap, Haunted House, Operation, all of 'em.

Is Dungeons and Dragons considered a board game? I know it's role playing, but you do have a map and pieces to move around and dice and stuff.

Anyway. D&D is really fun if you're with the right people. If the DM takes it too seriously, though, it sucks.

It's been ages since I've played any board games! I really miss it!

My favourites were Trivial Pursuit, African Star (http://www.peliko.fi/afrikan_tahti.php), Rappakalja (http://globetrotter-games.com/index.htm?S&game/sRappaK.htm) and Labyrinth (both the wooden one with a ball or the boardgame).
I also enjoy Police and thieves, Scrabble and backgammon (if I could remember how it was played.. ). And when we were kids we got this boardgame from our bank, but it was quite boring so we made our own on the other side! :D

I, like many people here, enjoy Scrabble quite a bit. I haven't played that many games, but I also find Boggle pretty fun. Word games... yeah.

Other than those two I also enjoy Clue, Monopoly, Sequence (kind of a board game), and Sorry!.

Scattergories and Taboo are both really fun too.

Okay, I guess I'm kind of a dork.

The movie game Scene It is kind of fun at first. The classic movie one was too hard for my friends so they lost interest.
