this is due to a number of and combination of factors, but the key is what moore was getting at in bowling for columbine. we don't have that deep and ingrained history of racial hatred, race superiority and de facto segregation, coupled with an incredibly sensationalistic, sleazy corporate media that pumps viewers full of fear, and fear of the black man every night. with these factors lacking and without a massive, impoverished, and neglected underclass where fear, hatred, desperation and ultimately crime will emerge and flourish, alarming american gun death rates aren't a reality here. granted, we do have our problems with gangs, guns and violence, however there will very likely be an outright ban on guns, and particularly hand guns in the next five years.
