Man, I see people go to shows of bands they've never heard of, bands they liked for a while etc...

I really only make a point of seeing bands I love. Bands I can sing along to when they play. Bands I could name every member of and at least 5 songs.

I guess that makes me lame or something - but I really don't have the money or time to go see bands I'm not excited about. I don't usually enjoy them as much if I'm not familiar with the music either.

For me it depends on how much money I have and how much new music I have been discovering.
The bands I really really love are no brainers, I just buy a ticket even if I have to work that day or something.
But sometimes there are bands I've hearda couple of songs of and I like them and like to get to know them better. And sometimes that leads to that band becoming one of my new very favourite bands.
Going to shows is just fun...

Resently I made a new friend and his band was playing at this club along with five other bands. I really enjoyed seeing all of them, I felt exited about music again. Two of them actually were really good that I really wanna see them again.
A few days later I was attending a really boring Christmas dinner/show and texted to my new friend and he tipped about a gig at a local pub. I went there and both bands were really really great! I had a great night out and now they're both my new My Space friends.
So sometimes it pays to go out and check some bands you've never heard of.

I agree. I will go and see a mix of things that I have heard and bands I have never heard before. I just love the whole gig experience and the chance of hearing something fabulous. Admittedly, you might hear a bunch of crap too but hell, it's still something to talk about.

If you go to shows (regardless of how familiar you are with a certain artist), you can walk away pleasantly surprised. OR you can laugh later about how terrible they were. :p

These days, I've been lacking the time (and even motivation) to see live shows. :(

Generally, I will see just about any live act my friends want to see if it costs $25 or less and it's either standing admission or we have excellent seats. I won't sit in shitty seats for any band at any price. I've been turned on to a lot of good bands because I went to a show on a whim.

If it costs more than $30, I have to like the band or at least be interested in what all the fuss is about.
