My mum's ok, because apparently I'm an exact copy of her and I'm pretty ok too.
But my dad is eh... not quite so ok. I want to bash his face in most of the time, but I can't do that because he's my dad.
I just can't talk to him. All he can do is talk about himself, he shouts at everyone all the time , he thinks he's the greatest person on the planet, he's a hypocrite and worst of all, he's VERY degrading towards my mother.
All he does is put her down, she can't do anything right in his eyes, and I hate him for it. I hate him even more when I accidentally bump into something or trip or spill something and he tells me I'm just as stupid as my mother.

My dad was the best dad ever and he died in 1992 after a 12 year battle with cancer so see Beth's explanation re why he automatically rules.

My mom has dementia now and she's always been a challenge but she tried her best in difficult circumstances and I never appreciated her enough when I should have. I get some of my best qualities from her (like always fighting for the underdog). So don't write off the less popular parent.

P.S. Beth -- my mom has loved me longer.

my mother is from deep jersey city, strong accent, foul mouth, and an attitude to match. being sick this year has settled her down though. however, the whole time she was in hospital she refused to show and sign of pain or sickness at all. i really admire her for that.
my dad is a grumpy old bastard (he is a lot older than most people's parents) but i think there is still some good in him. we have a lot in common.
they're both really intelligent people, but more like grandparents. they've also really mellowed out.

My parents are parents. I don't want them to be 'friends' with me and they understand that. They have always supported me in what I wanted to do, mostly because they know that I wouldn't take their advice anyway. My mum is Spanish and a tough one but she's also very funny at times. Especially after a single glass of wine and she's drunk. We call her 'little legs' as she's very short. My dad is tall and is Afghanistan working at the moment and I hope he's ok.

I have no other family apart from them and my siblings so we are quite close in a traditional family sense.
