View Full Version : How young will you go in a relationship?
So I met this girl a few months back, I immediately thought that she was the hottest thing I'd seen in a while so I made a bee line for her and began my plan of attack. We've met a few times and never gone past a kiss or two.
I took her out again the other day. We chatted for a while and I took her for some coffee, things were going great and we were getting on really well. So far so good.
So there I was confidence brimming sat there with this hot girl and things seemed to going well. Infact in the back of my head I cound'nt help but think maybe a little too well. Then she hit me with the headshot. She told me she was seventeen. WTF WTF WTF!?!?
See, I'm 25 and earlier this year I was in a full blown adult realtionship with a 29 year old. A gap of 4 years never brought up any problems with us but I cannot get my head around this.
I really like her and she really likes me but I can't help but think that I am doing the wrong thing by letting this carry on. I'd chat to my mates but i'm not exactly sure about what they'll say.
Please guys, can I have you're opinions? (!)

What the crap could you two possibly have in common? I couldn't go lower than say 22 at this point and that would be pushing it....for dating of course. I'd still hit it a few times if I were you

I had a similiar conversation with someone from here about this and they informed of the 'half your age + 7' rule as outlined here

it's not so much the number of years between you, but the fact that you are an adult, while she's still a child. age of consent may be 16, but you're still a child at that age, legally and mentally.
i think it's a bit weird.
i remember a guy chasing me when i was 17. we went out for a drink and found out each others' actual ages--he had thought i was about 23 and i had thought he was about 21. he turned out to be 27. we didn't pursue it any further.

wow, this is harder to polarise than I thought. It's funny how this divides opinions. In my head i'm 50/50 but when I'm with her I totally forget about the age gap.

I'll throw this in the mix:
If she's legal and you ARE going to keep going, I'd meet the parent(s) and get permission first.
If you guys really are getting along and think you might have found a soul mate and neither of you is uncomfrtable with the numbers AND she's legal, I wouldn't hasten to drop it. But I'd make sure everything was aboveboard.

this happened to me when I was 19 and the girl ended up being 16. Sure, three years isn't a big deal but it depends on which 3 years we're talking about here. I ended it. And I'd end it if I were you.
If it progresses, there is literally no way her parents will like you. No way.
but that's just me.
And just when I thought
She was coming to my door
She whispered sweet
And brought me to the floor
She said
I'm only seventeen (seventeen)
I'll show you love like you've never seen
She's only seventeen (seventeen)
Daddy says she's too young
But she's old enough for me

alternatively to the "bang her" opinion, do you like her and want to continue seeing her, for possibly a long time?
because she'll end up pissing you off.
the relationship mistakes you've already made and learnt from, the way you've probably learnt to control any jealousy, and weird feelings that come up when you are with someone... she hasn't done that yet, you'll be there for all her mistakes, for the first time she accidentally kisses another guy when she's drunk (too young to know how to control her drinking), being needy, being neglectful, whatever all those kinds of things.
the experiences you've had, she hasn't. let her have them with someone else discovering them for the first time....

I'm with a-z on this one.
though relationships with people that much younger than you is never good. Sure the actual different in years wouldn't be a big deal if both of you were much older but right now she is in a WAY different place in her life. At least, I'm assuming so considering the gap. She still has a lot of growing up to do.

ugh. i was 17 when i met my ex. he was 22, turned 23 a month after we got together. as mature as i thought i was, and as well as we seemed to get along, i was WAY too young to handle something like that and i'm so disgusted by him now just thinking about the age gap. i'm 22 now and i can't even imagine dating someone under 20. he should have never even talked to me - he has a lot of psychological problems, and is an alcoholic, but that's no excuse.
it really took years off my life trying to act like i was in a grown-up relationship with someone that was in a very different place than me - i missed my high school prom to go to his college graduation. it was wrong, and probably the only regret i have of my teenage years because it screwed up so many things for me. it took me so long to get the confidence to break it off with him, and blah blah it's a learning experience and i wouldn't be where i am today without it but DAMN i wish someone had stepped in and said no.

That is so awful to hear, but as a teenage girl (especially after 16) you think you know everything.

I'll keep it short. I told her that I think we shouldn't see one another etc etc etc. She got a bit upset, but I kindly reminded here that she originally told me she was 21 (I think I forgot to mention that before). I feel a bit guilty but I'm sure she's got millions of other guys lined up.
