If you meet a blond bloke in a tuxedo who drives a Ford Focus, then start writing out your will!

diplomatic immunity FTW!
nahhh. you are subject to british laws in british embassies. if you broke a law in the country you're in you will become a "persona non grata" and basically returned to britain in SHAME.
hmm. so i wikipedia-ed this up and while diplomatic immunity protects mission staff from civil and criminal laws, they are bound to respect national laws and regulations.
whatever, man, it still sounds sexy.
i was a little drunk when i posted this but i still think international jobs are the way forward for me. foreign/commonwealth office, amnesty international, SOMETHING.

YEAH! i mean, why stop at being a diplomat? why not RULE THE FUCKING COUNTRY? shit yeah.
i was talking about my potential changing the world with ranald last night and he grandfather was in MI5! he also owns a walther PPK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_PPK)! james bond's gun! (also banned by the hague convention and illegal to own so my suggestion of "sell it on ebay!" wasn't met with much enthusiasm)
he was a doctor during the war or something. i don't think technically he was employed directly by MI5 but he was certainly asked to do some isht because he had access to the docks to treat patients of all nations. and he was followed by some russian or something and jumping of boats happened! or something. i don't know. sometimes i phase out when the tele is on and ranald is talking on the phone. hahah.
he grandfather sounds pretty awesome though. i haven't met him yet and i've been with him for five years so i guess i should.. but he sounds like a crazy eccentric spy with guns, so.. i don't know.

I really wanted to do this too which is partly why I did languages and International politics at uni
Unfortunately, it's f*cking difficult to get into. Even Amnesty is always totally oversubscribed for internships and the like.
I find pretending to be a spy a great game though. My friend Genevra got me into playing spy. Basically because she could do a great Russian accent and say 'My name is Genevra and I am a Russian spy, prepare to die!'
*is easily amused*

i know peoples whose parents are diplomats. they make BANK. and they get most stuff paid for, like housing and shit like that. and they get to live in the best neighborhoods they want, etc. it's a pretty awesome job.

tp, did you try and get in? the foreign office employment website (http://www.fcocareers.co.uk/) lists all the different schemes. of course, i would apply for the operational office roles because i am a graduate. i've just missed the deadline for the round of applications though but if the past schemes are anything to go by i think the new round will start in april, so it's not too long to wait.
from the profiles i've read online of people who've done this or the fast-track civil servant scheme for graduates, they don't seem too "outstanding". i previously thought you had to speak like 4 languages, be a conservative and come from a good "family". i have none of these things. but i think they are trying hard and breaking this ralph fiennes image.
diplomats be pimpin', monkey, it's true! man. i just want to get paid more than £200 a week, you know? and have power shower. that's all i ask!
