Hahaha! There are times I've thought the same thing. But I like Pitchfork at the very same time.

I can't stay mad at them for too long since they put fishscale at #4

I didn't realize it, but Rolling Stone and Pitchfork ranked Timberlake in practically the same spot (#26 and #25, respectively).

No Beirut? Bullshit.

I listened to 30 second samples of most of the stuff on the first 2 pages, as I hadn't heard of most of it, and honestly, most if fucking sucked.

Half the list is a bunch of ambient 'post rock' crap that was done better by Slint 15 years ago.

Does anyone see that Timberlake's "My Love" is ranked as the #1 song? I mean, ew. I hate that song. Timberlake sounds like he's got his balls in a vice and singing like a Chipmunk. Michael Jackson could pull it off, he cannot.

I Perfectly agree.
Beirut is only mentioned because that overwhelming song of Postcards from italy is #29, it's not enough! it's my favorite song of 2006.
young folks by peter bjorn and john is beautiful too.

Zach Condon is a genious and Gulag Orkestar is a masterpiece!

The Decemberists and M. Ward definitely deserved their spots.

pitchfork, like the nme, is good for music news, upcoming and future releases, and tours. but beyond that, they're nothing more than a gang of pretentious snobby cliched hipster indie nerds, who usually favour the crappy, contrived indie hipster bands. or at least that's how they come across. although i was pretty shocked by their glowing reviews of dead meadow.

i dunno. putting pitchfork in the same bracket as the nme is a little harsh to say the least. i would trust a porn mags view on music before anything written in the nme. it is a foul disgusting organisation. admittedly i dont really read the reviews at pitchfork, or anywhere else. but yeah. the nme. gah!

speak for yourself. personally i wouldn't want to be affiliated, or associate myself with a trendy group of pretentious, obnoxious idiots, who frown upon anything and everything that isn't hipster approved.

what i stated had nothing to do with the nme's reviews or general level of writing and intelligence. the nme and pitchfork are good for music news, upcoming and new releases, and tours. their sites are updated regularly.

Such as...?

What I'm saying is pretty much all of us here (at least those who regularly contribute to this OM forum) have some sort of snobbiness or pretentiousness in some form. Obviously, not the Pitchfork party line, but insulting Pitchfork for being nerdy? We're all posting on a message board being highly, highly opinionated everyday. There's a high chance we're all nerds here, too.

i hear what you're saying, however by posting on an internet message board we have that nerd element in us. but snobbiness or pretentiousness? no. and of course we all have our opinions. however i'm not calling out pitchfork for being nerdy, but rather their pretentiousness, and the pretentiousness of the indie hipster scenesters. there are too many of them, ie in the city it's the scenester snobs, in the burbs it's the middle-class gangstas. like i stated, they will utterly dismiss anything and everything that isn't scenester approved. they all have to listen to and enjoy the same indie bands, - certain indie acts, not just for the sake of indie - however, they not only patronize anything that isn't hipster approved, but in taking this common approach, they really demonstrate their complete lack of rock and music knowledge, ie 'i can't listen to that, i can't listen to classic rock, soul or blues, it's not indie and it pre-dates the 80s'. they'll say that you gotta 'support the underground', but they wouldn't be caught dead listening to say, dead meadow, bardo pond, outrageous cherry, or black mountain. and they all have to appear that they shop at thrift stores, and wear glasses with big, thick frames in order to look nerdy or intellectual or whatever. everything about it is completely contrived, and pretty pathetic. there are very few genres of music i could completely dismiss outright, ie pop-punk, death metal etc are the few. so my beef with pitchfork has nothing to do with some sort of vague nerd element, but rather that they're latching onto this scenester hipster crap, and shoving it in our faces.

Yeah, I admit they go overboard with trying to pin down some sort of "indie cred" and there certainly is a dismissal of some forms of music because it may not be "cool" to their niche. At the same time, what they deem as worthy and unworthy is probably pretty arbitrary (e.g. they do love Johnny Cash, but he's highly esteemed in indie circles, and every other circle too; also, I think they do pretty much shun "classic rock" but there's artists within that camp they approve of, too).

Of course they're elitist and their stuff at times can make me want to throw my computer against the wall, but I think we're all better off having them around. Either as a punching bag OR to pick up on some music reccomendations.

I played a show with dead meadow once. don't remember a stitch of it tho. just remember my boyfriend-at-the-time-bass-player-of-our-band being pissed about our band's name placement on the flyer.

I'M FAMOUS!!!!!!!!

also, I think the pipettes suck, and that belle and sebastian suck. that recent album is over-produced horseshit. yeah, maybe it sounds pretty poppin, but it's vacant.
