i live in a great place and i hardly ever take advantage of it. i apologize.

(it's what dandy has been saying. she wishes she lived in ny and saw all the awesome comedy. she should take my place here. hehe.)

i think the only thing about ny that i always have taken advantage of is the museums. i LOVE LOVE LOVE museums, so i go all the time. but otherwise, am i taking advantage of my city? ARE YOU?

I never make the most of being able to be in the middle of Central London in like a 10 minute train ride. Except for today, as I'm just about to go there for an evening out with my girlfriend. But usually, no I never make the most of it.

i heard there were a bunch of theme parks here in orlando, but the only time we've ever been is when Echewta took us to disney world.

thanks Echewta. (y)

what's crazy is, we both love roller coasters. perhaps we just take it for granted. i'm going to make it a point to go at least once in 07.

I take advantage of the fact that I live in Chinatown and I'm much bigger than these little asians.

I go to a restaraunt and easily make my way up front because I'm a big fat hungry american and they don't want to mess with me.

J/k.

In fact, I really haven't taken advantage of NY as much as I should. I go on the subways and see those "Take advantage of....." posters.

We've got some plans for this weekend to do some more browsing and a museum is one of our destinations.

Probably the only thing in my area that I want to do that I haven't done is go to a Sharks game.

I take advantage of public transportation and the music scene, but I should go to the beach more and to museums.

depends what you mean by take advantage. i mean, i use the underground and visit several museums quite a few times a year (all of glasgow's museums are FREE - cool eh?) and go to pubs and ummm support my flatmate's band and visit the botanic gardens and things like that, but it's all familiar now.

what i'm more concerned with is seeing the rest of scotland/britain. sometimes i ask myself why i consider taking holidays abroad when i haven't even seen even half of my own country yet. and scotland is so diverse and beautiful.

with glasgow i am very much west end orientated, and i've spent 90% of my time here (5 years) north of the river. i seriously have only spent a smidgin of my time south of the river clyde. i've been to the east end only to visit a friend and take ranald to celtic park a couple of times, and worked in govan during red road. only been to the south side, like, twice. i don't know what there is technically to explore in these places though. not to sound really snobbish, but the culture and history of glasgow is all in the west end, city centre and surrounding areas.

i'm thinking of having/attending a burns supper this year - held on january 25th. i have a strong desire to go all twee scottish for the evening and drink whisky and eat haggis and listen to rabbie burns and ceilidh dance and what not. it's fun, and i'm proud of my country.

i'm in two ways about glasgow because it's not really my "home" area but it's the first city i've lived on my own in and i'm only just now starting to claim "ownership" of it. i don't know. it's hard to explain. but yeah, i'm sure there's plenty more i should be doing out there but i've done a lot. the west end of glasgow is such a "community" anyway that you can't really avoid it.

i've been meaning to go to a couple museums around here that i can get into for free while i'm still a student but i haven't managed to yet.

i think the problem here is that nothing gets publicized until after the fact, so nobody knows these things are going on until its too late and you can't do anything about it

Pauli, in answer to your question - Yes, of course I do!

Quite often I find myself whistling as I eat a meat and potato pie and watch the dead bodies floating down the Leeds-Liverpool canal, before heading off to watch the local youths kicking the shit out of an old man or two outside some shitty function room masquerading as a night club.

I dont abuse enought of what Montreal have to offer ...So much free stuff to go see:museum, theatre, international festival movies.....But one thing i dont take enough advantage of is the MEN. I should start to hunt them down more!:D

Really I hate this town for the most part, shitty museums, shitty art, shitty theatre, mediocre live music scene attended by an apathetic or ignorant audience, shitty red neck turned rich neck populus....however,the city borders the high plains and is on the gate to the most spectacular sites in the Rocky Mountain chain....so hiking, skiing and road triping provide some amazing times otherwise i miss the coast like no mofo could imagine....Steveston I shall return to you......:(

I walk along the beach a lot, there's a lot of rocks and crags and dead seals to look at.
I also climb the odd big hill, so yes.

It's very easy not to though, I think a lot of it depends on how long you've lived somewhere, and how long you're going to be there.

Absolutely. In the summer, I enjoy some boating/canoeing. I enjoy the beach. I enjoy eating shellfish. I enjoy drinking beers with my neighbors. Winters here are kinda tough though.

And! I'm close to NYC. I enjoy the shit out of Manhattan.

awww, the dead seals along the beach would probably discourage me from taking walks along it.

I know it's nature running it's course but, seals are probably my biggest animal weaknesses.

I've been taking advantage ever since I got out of college and now have TIME on the weekends to go out and explore. So far, I'm able to navigate my way through the national mall and touristy areas (monuments, museums, etc). I want to be able to navigate my way through smaller hole-in-the-wall areas so I can impress people when they come to visit.

But I definitely do. I love going to new museum visits, going to demonstrations, Chinatown, everything. I know I'm lucky to live near a city with a throbbing pulse, so I better take advantage while I'm still here.

is there something special in your city (that it may be known for, even) that you make a point to enjoy for a bit as well? i think i may have meant that too.

There's not much going on in my town but I am about 30 mins from London and 30mins from Brighton which are two of the coolest places - great bars, clubs, music venues, restaurants.

I don't go to the theatre and galleries as much as I should but I know they are there if I need them.

well....this city has the largest outdoor show and exhibition on earth, every summer....it's called The Stampede....an event steeped in the fine tradition of animal cruelty and explotation.....rodeo!.... ....people dress like cowpokes and get drunk for 10 days.....I just go for the midway......it's a shame that it's the claim to fame....there is however a fantastic, long running, folk festival here on a tiny little island that is really, really nice....(y)

My mates back home can't believe I live in one of the biggest cities in the world. I tell them it's not that big of deal. We do the same thing they do at home: Drink Tab, peruse the internet, play frisbee in the park. I haven't changed much.

I try to.

I realized after living two and half years in London and visiting the Natural History Museum once on my last week there I thought I better make the most of the place I'm living in. (I've visited loads of museums in London afterwards when visiting...).
I try to visit at least one or two museums a year, and especially when some friends come over I always want to show them the best places (I think that's why daddy-o fell for me... :o ). The last few months I've tried to visit as many museums as possible cause the free entrance is gonna be history after new year because of the new right wing bleeding government...

I went to the National Museum yesterday, had 2½ hours on me and had to go through the last floor in 10 minutes and that's where all the painted treasures were... So gonna go back there between Xmas and NYE if they're open, and gotta visit the Architectural Museum for the gingerbread houses...
