I WANNA WATCH CARTOONS IN THE PALM OF MY HAND, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!

well, I'm not really bragging, I was just excited. it's from ebay and it used to be owned by someone who named it Pumpkin. I renamed it Poop Sandwiches!
plus it's a christmas present. I only asked for a nano. my mom's gadget-loving boyfriend's the one who wanted to get the video one.
ANYWAY WHO ASKED YOU
I was wondering if there are ways to upgrade macs without having to get a new mac or having to lug this bitch downtown to the apple store and get some flibberty gibbets installed for moneys.

there has to be a mac auto update somewhere on the net

versions. I have OS X, and it's served me well so far, but now I've fallen behind the times. yeah, ran the automatic checker thing for updates and did the updates. some of the updates won't work unless I have v. 10.3.9 or later. that's what pretty much all the cool stuff says. :(

oi! that may work. how odd, when I tried to search for that, it gave me all kinds of bullshit with some java panther updater thing that I downloaded and then it told me it couldn't work without the 10.3.9 and I was all, "I THOUGHT I JUST DOWNLOADED THAT?!" but I didn't. I always avoid that website, it's barely changed in years and it's not very user friendly. too many boxes here and there.

THAT'S WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO BUT THE PLACE WAS GIVING ME THE RUNAROUND AND THEN NASTEE FOUND IT, SO PROBLEM SOLVED, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!

yeah, i saw the "need 10.3 through to.." thing after i posted it.
i think the way forward here is to FIRST update to a slightly lower version - 10.3.WHATEVER, and then once you have this, do a second update on the link i gave.

yeah, that's what I thought, but it's like that doesn't exist! I found 10.3.1, but it says I need 10.3 first...but I can't find a damn 10.3! argh!

Mac OS X version 10.3 is available from the Apple Store — 24 hours a day.
and then I click on that, and it takes me to the store and then I can't find it. they only have 10.4 and it's $129.
Dorothy Wood
12-21-2006, 01:25 AM
it's discontinued! ah ha! why didn't they just say that?! how dumb.

you should be able to find the download somewhere else on the net
Dorothy Wood
12-21-2006, 01:30 AM
I'm looking, but I'm not very good at pirating stuff. Ima probably just buy the 10.4 on amazon or something. unless someone knows better. anyone would know better. I know nothing. I got an A+ in internets in college, but that was 5 years ago.

shouldn't an update be free???
the free update for 10.3 has to be floating around somewere!
Dorothy Wood
12-21-2006, 01:37 AM
no, you have to buy it. it seems like it should be free, but it's not. I suppose it's like the times when you had to buy the new version of windows. everyone was all batshit about windows98 and ran to the stores to buy the box with the stuff, right?
anyway, it's not even fucking available. (http://www.amazon.com/Mac-10-3-Panther-Old-Version/dp/B0000E6NK9/ref=rsl_mainw_dpl/103-4827873-9983845)
I should just call the mac peoples and have them tell me what to do.

the 10.3 is something you have to buy, all the others are free. the 10.4 is something you have to buy too. it's a trick. those jerks.

I think maybe I'll just use the work computer for that stuff. I don't really need to be watching cartoons on the bus anyhow. I live in the ghetto, someone's bound to snatch it from me.
I just downloaded a whole audiobook though. for free.
I'm throwing in the towel for now.

You live in Chicago, yes? Go to the Apple Store and talk to the geniuses. I've seen them help out people with really old computers.
I'm guessing that it's Tiger you need. I had the same issue with my old mac about a year ago. When I bought Tiger I could do videos and it made everything else on the net much faster. Then my five-year-old laptop died for another reason and I got the macbook which is a 10.4, so even if you buy Tiger you're still behind. (Tiger used to cost about $100 but I wouldn't buy it without making sure it will really help you. Tiger's outdated now too because of the macbooks.)
P.S. I love Apple to death, but the video ipods have tons and tons of problems that Apple won't admit too. They update the software all the time because of "glitches" and I don't know whether you can do all the updates without a macbook. My ipod crashes daily, but it won't crash on command for the Apple Store to see, so the Apple Store can't help me. My earlier ipods never did this crap but now I'm hooked. :(
