View Full Version : james brown is dead
ATLANTA -- James Brown, the legendary singer known as the "Godfather of Soul," has died. His agent, Frank Copsidas, says Brown was hospitalized yesterday at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta with pneumonia and died around 1:45 this morning Eastern Time. He was 73. Copsidas says Brown's longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side. He also says Brown's family is being notified of his death and that the cause is still uncertain.

yeah I was pretty bummed when I heard about this :(
I'm glad I took the chance to see him live this past summer, despite it being 50 bucks (for jb? that's an amazing deal to me) and no one was willing to go with me (because they are crazy people).

^ that was little richard, dork.
Given his hedonistic wife abusing PCP smoking lifestyle, I would say making it to 73 was a pretty good run.

Did you guys read about the lawyers locking his girlfriend out of the house?
I guess that they had gotten married while she was still inconveniently married to another man; after she divorced Man #1, she and James never got (re)married. So, nothing personal, but she has no spousal rights, supposedly, and she's out on the street.
That's a pretty idiotic situation -- not to make sure you're properly married, if that's what you want, especially with a five year old kid between them -- but I still feel kind of sorry for her.

Spike Lee Settles Into Warm Chair
Now that James Brown has passed on and can no longer cash in on his outrageous dance moves, infectious grooves and eccentric character, somebody else is going to be able to.
Spike Lee has already announced that he now intends to film a James Brown biopic, even though filming won't begin for at least a full year. What on earth could his motivation for announcing the film now be? Does anybody find this a little bit tasteless?
I suppose some will argue that the announcement is a kind of tribute. Hmmmm.
Brian Grazer, predictably enough, will produce. I nominate Harvey Keitel for a cameo as Larry Cohen.
