Are you seeking advice, or just talking about yourself for the sake of talking about yourself?

I usually get the impression that in most cases, it's the latter.

you know when George runs through the streets at the end of the movie yelling Merry Christmas.

kinda like that.

i think both. sometimes it's seeing the situation spelled out in front of you that helps. and sometimes, you want advice. and sometimes, there's that little attention whore dying to come out.

I agree with this. But what I don't get is the people who seemingly ignore the legitimate advice they are offered, and continue to rationalize and/or make excuses for their behavior instead.

Welcome to life.

And It's a Woderful Life is a great, great movie. Give it another shot. I bet it's not what you think it is. That is one hard, cruel film.

It depends. When I post about my personal life, it's to vent/get advice. I do use this board as an outlet for things I can't really talk about to people I know in real life. If I specifically ask for advice, it's because I value people's opinions and want to see what they'd do. Otherwise, I just won't ask.

I love a depressing tale of a loser as much as the next dork, but not so much that I need to see it 40 times in a span of 3 days.

I wish that when everyone asked the typical pleasantry of "Hi. How are you?" that everyone would actually respond with HOW THEY ARE instead of "Fine. How are you?"

Ah. Yeah -- I wouldn't watch a movie 40 times in three days even if I were editing it.

i think this is usually what i think. usually just to make whatever the situation is to seem less isolated and more like something that happens with some regularity

I think that people have a right to post that kind of stuff if they want to, but they should also be prepared for nasty replies and a mixed response. It seems only fair that should you have the bravery to speak up about something personal that you be prepared for asshole-ish responses as well as the good little responses that come in between.

I think everyone does it at one point or another. Even if they don't ask for the advice, most people know how to get themselves out of a shitty situation but they are too scared/can't put the effort in to do it. It's life...hopefully most of us grow out of it.

I agree that everyone talks.

I don't agree that everyone disregards the advice offered by the people with whom they incessantly discuss their personal problems.

YEAH (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=74981), I hate those people who are all "Hey, I'm 23 and I've got all the answers to life and nobody can tell me shit"

The only thing I hate more than those fuckers are the fuckers who make endless amounts of threads about everything they hate. "I hate this" and "I hate that" and "I hate it when these kind of people do this activity".
LIKE ANYONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT WHAT YOU HATE.

I hate those assholes.

Nice applicable example, beef nips.

Funny that you probably did a good 5-10 minutes of sifting through my threads and that's the best you could come up with.

Nah, I merely searched:
"Dumb 23yo. kids who think they have all the answers to life regardless of what people who have made hundreds of thousands of dollars from buying & selling real estate tell her & her boyfriend"

Nice applicable example, beef nips.

to get advice or input whether or not I ask for it directly. Regardless of asking for it, most people seem to respond with advice anyway, so that works.

I say we could all benefit from a little Tony Robbins -- only to realize whatever we think we have bad, isn't as bad as having to listen to yourself all day if you're Tony Robbins.

I usually post about my personal life to boast and belittle.
