Investing???

My brother in law works for Fidelity and handles all my investments for me but this year I'm trying to take a more active role in my finances or at least try and understand them more. Anyway can someone please explain to me in layman’s terms what the hell the difference between a regular IRA and a Roth IRA is?? Which is better or what are the pros and cons of each. Oh and what's the deal with mutual funds?? I feel like an idiot asking my bro-in-law but most of you already think I'm an idiot so it's okay...I sincerely appreciate any legitimate input provided. Thanks

Well I wouldn't exactly say I have been lazy....but every time I try and get smart on that stuff I either get extremely bored or confused by all the techincal terms. Thanks for the link though
