I have a question for you.
I've been in a discussion recently over the word 'Interpretive'. A whole bunch of people seem to think this is correct, while in my opinion the correct word is InterpreTAtive.
According to these people both versions of the word are right. I think they are all just idiots. I think it's one of those words (for instance like the word prerogative) that gets spelled wrong by so many people, that eventually the wrong version gets accepted as correct spelling.
Anyhoo, interpretive is not in my dictionary, interpretative is. Therefor I feel that I'm correct. But I also might be a stupid foreign person and have it all wrong.

Opinions please.

microsoft word recognizes both words

www.thefreedictionary.com defines "interpretative" as a variant of interpretive. dictionary.com has that as one of the definitions as well. merriam-webster has the same exact definition for both words

they are not idiots

i pronounce substantive wrong all the time, but it was never a problem before law school

same thing with affidavit (i think, i'm still not sure which one's right; affiDAVitt or affiDAVEitt...in fact i'm not sure which one i even use most of the time, i think i go back and forth, so i guess i'm right half the time)
