american beer gets a bad rap, but there's some good stuff to be had. when people think of american beer, they think of budweiser, miller, keystone, natural, etc., and it's true, you're better off drinking piss than that, but there are good ones. sam adams, harpoon, uhhhhhhh i forget the others, but i remember having good ones

i dunno, i didn't like beer when i started drinking it either, i just roughed it in order to get drunk but now i honestly enjoy drinking the stuff, from the first sip to the last

As far as affordable beers:

1. Harp

2. Dos Equis

3. Rolling Rock

i really recommend trying sam adams black lager (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=74331)

it tastes like a combination of chocolate and coffee, only it gets you drunk

my other favorite beers are newcastle and bass

i've been drinking a lot of harpoon, only because the grocery store at the end of my street sells it (it's a small store, it doesn't sell a wide variety of stuff, but it's close and i'm happy to give it my money, so i go there a lot), and it's really pretty good. i have no idea how popular the stuff is outside of america/new england, only because i don't get out of america/new england much but i dunno, it's nice.

i find dark beers very attractive

i like drinking out of a glass a lot. even if i buy a pack of bottles, i'll pour them into a glass first. not only does it look better, but i honestly think it affects the taste. it's much more enjoyable. i don't know much about the physics of beer, but i knows what i likes

Who doesn't like beer? I didn't like it when I tried it when I was like 8 or whatever but now I feel like a day isn't the same without a few bottles of export strength lager. I could talk about beer for hours, it's the shit and I love it.

I particularly like a good clean European lager like Grolsch or Peroni or Staropramen or something. German Weissbier is good if you want a slow, tasty drink. Same for the creamy Czech ones like Budvar. I received some beer gifts to aid me with the Christmas drinking period, during which I discovered if you wanna start drinking on a hangover then go with Indian beers, the light crispiness of them is nice on the stomach and they aren't too bad for your head either. Cobra, Kingfisher and Tiger are the best Indian beers in my opinion. I could drink Kingfisher all day and never feel tired.

Also, there's nothing like a bottle of room temperature Guinness Original on a cold winter morning. Warms you up and makes you feel nice and sleepy. It's like the beer equivalent of a mug of hot chocolate. (y)

I'm sorry but I've never had an American beer that I've enjoyed. Same for Australian. Europe and West Asia are the undisputed kings of beer in my opinion.

saz
01-07-2007, 10:33 AM
i'll settle for nothing less than premium german wheat beer: hacker-pshorr hefe weisse (http://www.genx40.com/images/beerblog/hefe8.JPG), schneider-weisse (http://www.schneider-weisse.ch/bilder/origin_1.jpg), and paulaner hefe weissbier (http://www.bolag1.se/images/815.jpg). ditto others like tuborg gold, lowenbrau, staropramen, becks, kozel, holsten, hoegaarden, and krombacher. generic domestic beers for the most part are pretty mediocre, and i don't know how any could drink american.

I love beer, but I'm not really a connoisseur or anything. My favourite beers are brewed locally at a little microbrewery (http://www.bushwakker.com/) that really knows how to do things well, especially with their dark and amber beers. Otherwise I like Canadian brews like Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale (which has been my staple beer for years), Bohemian Lager, Big Rock Traditional Ale, and of course Molson Old Style Pilsner (aka Saskatchewan champagne). On the cheaper side of things we have Great Western Brewhouse, which is like $21.50 for 18 bottles but still pretty good.

European-wise I enjoy Newcastle, Beck's, Bushvar Czech Pils, Kronenbourg 1664, Stella Artois, and when I was in Berlin I spent an entire night drinking something called Markischer Landmann, which was one of the best dark beers I've ever had. In America I only drink Sam Adam's.

i hate to admit it, but i dig pete's strawberry blonde ale.

duuuude. lindeman's peach lambic = ho. lee. shit. ok, so it's only 4%, but i don't really think of it as a beer. it's something i can drink with my grandma and not worry about getting wasted in front of family. and it tastes awesome! the raspberry's the most popular flavor, but peach and i go way back.

guinness should be used in pies, not as a drink!

eh, i guess s'alright, but it tastes a bit like casserole. it's like having a meal in a glass. my irish friend drinks guinness and blackcurrant (shock and awe!) and it's more unsettling that way, but still so.. heavy. and i never want to order a half pint of guinness in a glasgow pub.. i'd probably be thrown out.

but, i've said this before, when i went to dublin i tried a fantastic "lost brew" or whatever from guinness called brew 39 (i think) which was less heavy and absolutely fucking amazing. i also had a chocolate truffle stout! mmm mmm.

i promise, i tried to like it, i really did. i even had oysters and brown bread and guinness in (a really famous irish restaurant/bar which escapes me right now) but i just cannae do it!

tennants, on the other hand...

I don't like beer much at all. I usually get sick just thinking about it. However, there have been some beers that I could probably handle if I drank it enough. In fact, Friday I was drinking beer and I never do (probably explains my terrible hangover). I think I had Heineken from a mini keg (bleh) and it wasn't those little can-size kegs, Stout's Double Chocolate (nasty) and maybe two more kinds of beers after that. I do recall a Miller Lite being my last drink of the night and I didn't know what I was drinking until I tasted it. I was like "This tastes like shit, what is it!? Oh....Miller Lite." I gave it to my friend and that was it for me.

Just the smell of beer upsets my stomach.

I used to hate beer. The tase of it nearly made me puke and I laughed at others for being so idiotic to drink it like water. My mum said it was an acquired taste, I mocked her because why would you want to get used to something so disgusting?

But then I was invited to an island party. Nothing but blokes, and nothing to drink but beer. And as I couldn't get off the island I tried to drink it...
The first was quite difficult, the second went a bit easier and by the 7th or 8th I was screaming for the lads to 'bring me beer NOW!'.

And now I go out with the lads every week and 'bingedrink'.
But I never get really drunk. I always puke before I hit that point. I still have a lot of training to do.

Oh btw, I usually drink whatever they're selling. But my fave is Hertog Jan. It's the beer metalheads drink. \m/

i'm actually starting to enjoy dark beers more. i used to hate them, but i gave guinness another chance and it wasn't bad. oddly enough, i didn't feel a thing on it except full. and i like samuel smith's stouts more than their pale ales for sure. it's not really my bag though. i like lighter ales, but nothing super pale. i'm a big fan of hard ciders, too - especially pear. mmm. if i want something light to accompany a meal, i enjoy a Lindeman's Lambics. framboise is everyone's favorite but peche is by far mine.

i have never, and will never, let cheap shitty beer pass my lips. the lowest i'll go is heineken. preferably a bottle, but the keg can's aight if there's nothing else. yeah, that's right, i bring my own beer to a party. wine if i don't feel like sharing.

Now that I can have a beer only every once in a while ( bf'ing and all that). I really, really, really enjoy it when I do. Savour every sip.

When I was pregnant, I craved beer. A LOT. So unfair.

I hate the stale beer smell you get in your house the morning after you have a lot of people round. It's making me feel ill(er).

Now your of age I'll tell you a trick

Go to Suburbs and creep up : Raid their outdoor fridge that they're so proud of. Trust me if they're stupid enough to put it outside then they're dumb enough to fill it full of steaks and beer.

Will you find Paulaner beer? I doubt it. But beer that's free tastes better...Even if it's a Miller

i have never, and will never, let cheap shitty beer pass my lips. the lowest i'll go is heineken. preferably a bottle, but the keg can's aight if there's nothing else. yeah, that's right, i bring my own beer to a party. wine if i don't feel like sharing.
reason #204 why i love you.

claire, you and i just need to get in the same general vicinity to make that happen, k?

there are tons of people on this board that i'd go out and have drinks with. even qdrop.

Beer is indeed awesome! I'm huge fan of Czech beer as well as many kinds of ale.

beer is part of being an adult, and before that, a teenager.

lately though, im focusing more on the hangover than the actual enjoyment of drinking it the night before, im actually starting to drink less because of that.
