I think I am going to take a few days off in February/early March and fancy going away somewhere different.
I don't want to spend loads of time travelling but where's good for a short break? I have a couple of places in mind but appreciate any recommendations.
I'll be travelling from the UK before anyone starts suggesting places in Australia :)

Where is that?
My job ends on March 2.
I should probably put a wink here now.

SCOTLAND!
fo realz though. not glasgow, however. or edinburgh. oop north. highlands and islands. it's a different planet, i tells yah! you'd be surprised at the amount of people who live in this country and yet haven't explored it properly.
failing that, paris is gorgeous.
also copenhagen is somewhere i would really fancy going that sounds luvverly.
or iceland.
don't go to norway or anywhere where vodka is about a tenner :/
speaking of cheap booze, my mum went backpacking in slovenia recently and said it was lovely, lots of cheap wine!
also, she said vienna was beautiful. and you can go and look through randy's window! (y)

Well, if you're lookin for relaxation go to Amsterdam. If you don't mind cold winds blowing up your kilt (yeah, I know...) go to Iceland, major awesomeness in nature. Continentally, Lugano and the Maggia valley are drop dead beautiful spots. Look it up...

i don't mean to be funny but;) ..... what does "somewhere different" mean, if we don't know where you've been before?
i would suggest a week's snowboarding in france... that's what i'm hoping to be doing at the end of march. probably not very different tho.
iceland is a good suggestion.
egypt, israel or jordan? i know someone who just came back from jordan and then went on to israel. both really interesting places.

Thanks for the tips
cmute- Houston is a wee bit far for a long weekend, but thanks for the Seagal quote; the man has depths I never knew existed
TAL - I'd like to visit the big desk and see what goes on there, so thanks for the reminder of the deadline. I'll wink too ;)
na§tee - yep, Scotland is an option though after nearly dying in Oban as a teen, I am in no hurry to go back there. I suppose I could visit whatever relatives I have left in Inverness. I have a wedding there though in May so not in any rush. And a hen night in Paris. But Copenhagen & Iceland both sound darn good.
Otis - been to Amsterdam quite a few times so think I shall pass on that but again, Iceland is a top idea
VV123- Yeah, I know I wasn't especially helpful by suggesting somewhere different!!! :p I was hoping for some more unusual suggestions, rather than Dublin or Barcelona and you all delivered - Iceland seems to be popular(y)

^^^ Now there's something different!
Take a cruise round the Stockholm archipelago.
Go skiing in eastern Finland,or visit Santa Claus in Rovaniemi, or Muumin in Naantali.
Go diving in Madeira (they've got some wonderful caves there).
Have you been to Pamukkale in Turkey? Or these funny mountains in southeast that I just remember the name of at the mo?

Well, I am on my break and so far it's going well. I decided to take up someone's recommendation.

This is the perfect time of year for the B's, Bognor, Bounemouth or Brighton.
You can eat chips in the deserted cafe while rain lashes agains the window.
Although that might not be quite far enough away for you, or remotely desireable, so how about Cornwall? Somerset? There's a donkey sancturary in Sidmouth in Devon where I went on honeymoon.
They have nice donkeys that you can look at.
Donkeys are nice.

Blackpool!......just funnin.....I'm biased but if I had Heathrow as my hub I'd be in southern Spain every chance I had, specifically, the province of Murcia, via Valencia, then down to Santiago de la Ribera (home) or La Manga del Mar Menor.....including a day trip to Granada somewhere in there......or maybe one of those package deals to Tenerife....although it's full of brits....wink,wink,knudge,knudge.....avoid Ibiza unless Pete Tong is your host....hope you had fun!(y)

Norway is beautiful, but you need more that a few days.
Prague is very cool too (and getting pissed should be quite affordable).
Otherwise, come to Berlin. You'd have me as a guide here! :D
