I have a sweet tooth and I dont have that instinct to stop . . when it comes to ice cream, cookies...anything with sugar. I have tried portion control...taking three cookies out instead of sitting with the box on my lap, never works because I always end up getting more. (or standing at the freezer while eating ice cream!) Is there anything that ya'll do or can reccommend to curb these sweet tooth attacks?

The holidays were bad, there were always sweets around, I purposefully don't buy the crap so I wont have it in my house, but then I usually end up sneaking out at work on my lunch break for a Potbelly oatmeal / chocolate chip cookie or something.

any advice would be helpful...

your pal,
can't eat just one

I've tried a few things to beat it back...my craving for something sweet happens right around the time I go to sleep so it's bad....things I've tried:

dried fruits: apricot,rapple,banana,raisins, even prunes

Licorice or "nibs"

Flavored tooth picks

Currently I've resigned myself to a cup of green tea mixed with dried cranberries, takes a while to sip on and it's just the right sweetness without any calories or caffeine....(y)

ok, instead of a massive cookie, I just had a mild cheddar stick and veggie crisps.

it's a start I guess.

since I was a kid, I would get the shakes if I didnt have some form of chocolate daily.

I can understand the "can't stop" thing for sure. :( I feel your pain. Only for me it isn't sweets, it's greasy things and salt. My sis-in-law left some tortilla chips and a big ol block of cheddar at my house... after they left, I knew I couldn't be left home alone with it so I marched it straight out to the garbage can! I know my kryptonite and got rid of it, STAT.

If I eat something salty, I have to eat something sweet to top it off.

If I eat someting sweet, I need to eat something salty to top it off.

I guess you can call me sweet & sour.

:o

that's cute, but it's true. i'm the same way.

im the same way when i have munchies. oh shit. it's like the end of the world for me when i have munchies.

i drink lots of juice and water and chai's when i have cravings, that usually curtails it.

i <3 sweets! love bread type of sweets like cookies, cake, brownies. etc once i try one i can't stop untill its gone or almost gone or halfway gone or untill i realize i have eaten way too much:(

but i pretty much threw out (or stopped buying any "junk" food) so if i'm craving it i just go cold turkey i guess since its not in my house so i can't eat it but if someone brings cookies home i'm all "DIPS ON ALL OF THEM!"

so i just eat fruit to try to curb my cravings mostly bananas <3 bananas

I think it also has to do with foods glycemic index. If you eat a food with higher glycemic index it rises your blood sugar levels. Next thing the body produces massive amounts of insulin and bam the blood sugar drops. That's when you have the cravings again. Try googling foods with low g.i., these won't give you cravings afterwards. I happen to know that banana has a high g.i. so better to stay away from it.

Who cares? Just eat your fucking sweets and be done with it. If you don't want to be fat then you can always excercise.

Summing up; I say eat everything.

i noticed i've been snacking a lot lately, but i think its mostly because i eat at such awkward times to begin with that i tend to get really hungry later in the evening and so i just snack a whole lot
