The curb scene in American History X

Anything real. You can make me squirm by showing me a live birth. Urgh. I'm convinced I could never watch my kid get born.
I don't really like throat cutting. Makes me queasy.

I know it's not a movie but on one of the Dirty Sanchez DVD's on of them uses a self circumcision kit on himself and it goes a bit wrong. That makes me cringe

For me, this scene was cringeworthy only for the wicked sound effects. It was a bit too over the top, though.

That's the first thing I thought of. Much worse than the rape scene.

Just about all of Dead Ringers. Hoo boy.

Seeing the curb scene for a second time is like the Trainspoting baby. Not so fearsome at second glance....
Irreversibles rape scenee is pretty hefty, but the guy having his head beaten to a pulp with a fire extinguisher is the bestest! :D

The curb scene from American History X, Dr. Melfi's rape scene on 'The Sopranos', and the dog trapped in the bag while the kid is going to beat it (or something) in The Butterfly Effect. Those are my big ones.

In Blood Simple --

SPOILER AHEAD

....when M. Emmet Walsh is reaching from one room's window to the bathroom's window, and Frances McDormand slams the window down and stabs his hand to the sill... then after he's punched his way through the wall and carefully pulls the knife out... I was definitely squirming during those moments.

O.K......when Karen goes to see Jimmy after Henry has been pinched by the feds,Jimmy offers her to come in to the warehouse and look at some coats or dresses, she gets very panicked and splits....my brother has always maintained that she was gonna get whacked ( I thought it was paranoia and warranted fear on her part) and that in fact in the scenes background there is a guy loading a revolver……I’ve seen it ½ dozen times and never noticed a guy loading a gun in the background……?????

You see two men in the warehouse actually, and they kind of stop when they see Karen and pause in an anticipatory way. But it's unclear whether they're just workers or what. Yes, it's a VERY VERY paranoid scene, but the whole point of it was the total distrust of things. The circle of their closest friends was falling apart; everything closing in.

Yup. She was great. John Getz was AMAZING in that and no one seems to pick up on it. Walsh was pure sleaze. And Dan Hedaya was great.

The guy who played the bartender kinda sucked, and in the "director's cut" on DVD, they cut out almost all his stuff, which was kind of sad, because his parts were about the only warm spots in the movie. So the director's cut comes off way more misanthropic than it used to be.

No -- there's no gun. You don't see a gun; that's part of the point. It's ambiguous. If she'd seen a gun, she would've screamed or something or ran instead of making excuses and backing away.

Think of the logic: if she'd seen a gun, why would Jimmy keep trying to coax her back in? "Come on, Karen. Honey? Don't you want to get shot and take a coat? Karen?"

Take a gulp for me. :)

The only two times that I remember physically squirming in a theater were:

(1) during the scene A-Z mentioned in Blood Simple -- I hid under my coat.

(2) the icky part of Misery.

But as for feeling icky or uneasy, I can't remember a damn thing about the movie The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover, except that it unsettled me. In part it was because it was a bad movie and in part because I felt like I was being manipulated but it wasn't a horror movie so it felt just really wrong. And at the end of the movie, the friend I was with told me she thought it was marvelous and I just didn't understand the symbolism. It was the first clue that we weren't meant to be friends.

The one-take hammer fight is fuckin ill and I thought it was one of the best fight scenes ever. But one thing I could NOT watch in Old Boy is when O-Desu finally meets the guy who kept him locked up and wrenches out his teeth with the hammer. Maybe it was just because I was so baked when I saw it, but as soon as I saw what he was going to do I had to close my eyes.

We've already had this thread, and I said the same thing before, but the most unsettling thing I've ever seen in a movie is the scene in City of God where Lil Ze and his thugs corner the two little kids and hobble them with guns before making Steak n Fries choose which one of them to kill. Lil Ze's cruel vicious laughter with the kids just sobbing and pleading with him to let them live is so heartless and inhuman that I still find it tough to watch even after seeing the movie multiple times.

I was thinking "Brother" with Takeshi Kitano...
LMAO, NO on all accounts. last non-german girl I flinged was from Vancouver and that was more than a year ago. I can't calculate the european cup size, though. Just send her over and I'll take good care of her and her assets. Hurm.
Now, the other issue is real complicated. I have not really made up my mind about it, but consider the following: When I was in Amsterdam, there were movies called Zoo Adventures displayed in store windows at knee height, showing a woman being licked by a swear-to-god tapir. In all the Scandinavian states there are porn videos for sale in every gas station, no matter how tiny. I didn't not watch many german videos. I watched some porn with my ex, her idea, but in a big ass video store we didn't really find anything not-too-perverse after a few times. Mind that it was neither a specialty porn video rental and that no more than 25 - 30% were german. Lot of US stuff. They seem to enjoy pierced actors in their porn which grosses me out. I must say that I strongly suspect a lot germans to be not too worried about filming themselves during sex and making these socalled amateur tapes. Common themes on the rack include neighbors, house wives, mom & daughter, eastern european teens and so on. I don't think really fucked up shit is very popular, but I might be wrong. That I think is a common prejudice, whose origin is mysterious to me. Now is Miss 14d still here? I'm gettin all excited... :p

they dont actually show it, but you know what is happening.

Which makes it worse.

The sound off teeth on concrete. Not good.

It just cuts away for the actual impact, otherwise, the threat of what's going to happen is probably -- what? fifteen seconds? -- but feels longer, because it's so dreadful, and the victim is made complicit. ("Bite the curb! BITE THE CURB!") Then you see the stomp and hear the result and it's just gut-churningly awful.

The curb stomping was bad....I almost felt at the time of the movies release that it was somewhat irresponsible....in that it's an act of violence specific to the neo nazi movement....I felt like ,shit,no need to promote this kinda thing.....haters are so easily influenced......copycat's......I don't know that this is a valid opinion is but it went through my mind a few times....I found that the shot of the blood swirling around the drain while Ed was being raped in prison upset me sensibility's even more.......:(

Has anyone seen "Straw Dogs" theres a scene in it where a rape turns into forced but almost consenstual sex and then the guy's brother comes in and turns it back into rape again....this is a highly disturbing scene......

Peckinpah. Yeah -- that's one I've sort of avoided because I knew that was in there.

I don't mind a bit of the ol' throat cut.

has the scene in cache been mentioned yet? If you've seen this movie, you know exactly what I am talking about.
