fuck it i'd go there if they offered me $1,000,000 a week.
(this is the wage the news said he was on. but think they must have made some sort of mistake).

He's so pussy whipped. Celtic seemingly put in a good offer for him.
You just know Victoria's been like "Daviiiid, Daviiid! Don't move to Scotland! Move to LA!".
It is the biggest thing to happen to the MLS since the 6 year old Freddie Adu signed for 1 billion dollars. Most American men would rather go pickout curtains with their wife than attend a MLS soccer match.
The transfer deal is $128 million.
That is a truly obscene amount of money.
David Beckham's five-year MLS deal reportedly is worth $250 million.

football (soccer) isn't that popular here thats why i'm surprised that he's getting so much money (also cuz its just a shitload of money)
in L.A the soccer fans are moslty latinos and most of them aren't Galaxy fans they were until Chivas USA came to town & they like turned their backs on the Galaxy, i'm still a Galaxy fan i remember back in the day when Kobe Jones actually played & their home was at the Rose Bowl not the Home Depot Center, anywayz now that Beckham is in town Galaxy might win some of their fans back
Galaxy was better than Chivas USA anyways they were more skilled

The people we met in line at the Beasties show had their boys in hockey. They had actually been to northwestern Minnesota for a tournament. I said, "hockey? in LA?" They said that hockey got popular in LA because of Gretsky. So maybe soccer's next. LA loves superstars.
BTW, 128 million pounds would be about 250 million dollars.

He's one of the best playmakers I'd say - maybe 'in the world' is a bit much but certainly in the Premiership he certainly plays that "behind the striker" role well, holds the ball up good and he's got incredible vision.
Certainly plays the position better than the likes of Totti. But best striker? No way.
As for beckham, if someone wants to pay him a million dollars a week let them be the stupid ones. He's been shit for years.

That's nuts. He's gettin paid that much to participate in a sport/league that the US couldn't care less about. I don't know much about him, but he seems like a pompous ass. So I guess slipping into obscurity isn't exactly what he wants to do, but that's exactly what's gonna happen. He'll get 1 minute on Sportcenter when he gets here and then vanish.

yes i was actually thinking today now that Beckham is in town Galaxy will actually sell out games now cuz everybody will want to see what the hype is about, i know i would want to go to a Galaxy game just to see Beckham
beckham is gettin "kind of" old anyways, he's like right now 1st or 2nd place in career earnings so far in soccer of all time. at his career point, i'd rather live in la playin soccer makin money than livin out in nowhere makin money times two.
on a very related note, i don't get why location isn't a bigger deal in sport related contracts. i mean, wouldn't you almost prioritize location of residence instead of salary and team players if we're already talkin millions? i'm thinkin i would.

Eh, for US sports, mother fuckers usually have multiple homes anyway and only stay in their team's city during the season so it's not that much of a priority. But I see your point. Why play football in Wisconsin when you can play in Miami or San Fran? MONEY.

Why play football in Wisconsin when you can play in Miami or San Fran? MONEY.yeah. and as far as living goes, of course millionaires gonna have multiple houses in different cities but once on-season, you're pretty much tied up in your team's city. and that's like at least 6 months a year.

It's a marketing ploy by the MLS. They own all the players contracts and stuff, so they are really getting him in to promote soccer more than anything. I don't like the fella, but it could do proper football the world of good over there.
Here's a letter from a football website i read:
The Number That Matters Most In The Beckham Deal
There are a lot of numbers involved in the David Beckham deal. 200 million, the amount of American dollars in endorsements; 51 million, the amount of dollars over the five years of his contract; but the most important number is the one that's going to slide by under the radar: 2,000
Two thousand season tickets to LA Galaxy games sold since news of David Beckham's signing.
I'm an American, living in America, I have to pay for specific channels to watch real football (LFC fan, I have my reasons, none of them being pertinent to this topic), I have to pay for online services to listen to games that don't air on cable or satellite. I have to stay up until 1 in the morning to see footy highlights every weekend. I'm not trying to paint a sorry picture of the "Poor American Footy Fan" I'm trying to make every reader of this fine online institution (lips now removed from F365 ass) understand how big of a deal this is.
For the first time since the World Cup, "soccer" was the lead story on SportsCenter. For the first time in my life an interview with a "soccer" player was aired on ESPN that didn't feature the words "brandy", "chastain", "mia", "hamm", or "sports-bra". This may seem like a "so what?" thing to many of you out there but it is a huge deal to a struggling enterprise such as the MLS, and a struggling culture such as American Soccer.
From a personal standpoint I thought seriously of going up the road to see Beckham play when he comes to Massachusetts. I called my friend who is a footy sympathizer and even he seemed vaguely enthused about the prospect of watching David Beckham play.
Forget that he's past his prime. Forget that his skill set is a limited one at best. Forget that his maximum level of effectiveness as a player is only reached when the ball is stopped. None of that matters. His eroded skills don't matter. The fact that there is no way in hell he's playing over 70 percent of his team's games over the next 5 years is irrelevant as well. David Beckham can't solve the MLS organizational issues (does it make sense for any sport to have the League own the players instead of the teams? Who wants to buy teams? They're just a toilet to throw money down. In the words of Duke Phillips from The Critic, they're a Johnny Cash!)
David Beckham can't solve the culture of mistrust everyone has toward the MLS after the colossal cock up in the Freddy Adu situation (DC United gets one nationally televised game on a major network for ONE reason and that ONE reason barely gets on the pitch for injury time) David Beckham can't revive his career or reputation as a player by coming to America.
None of that matters.
The only thing that matters here is this: Beckham is going to but bums in seats. Some of those bums are going to be disappointed by this man whom they've probably never even heard speak. Some of them though, maybe a nominal percentage, but a percentage nonetheless will see a good football game. They'll start going to more games. They'll bring their kids. Their kids will grow up in a "soccer" environment and that's how you bring football to America.
David Beckham as a man brings nothing to the MLS. David Beckham as a player brings nothing to the Galaxy. David Beckham as an oddity, as a circus attraction, as an event, IS something. David Beckham can't save "soccer in America", that's up to Americans. We need to collectively stop deriding the sport as a "boring game for cheats" (Which, off topic, kind of reminds me of Baseball at the moment), we need to sit down and actually immerse ourselves in this beautiful game. Now every sports fan has a reason to watch ONE game.
And that is all that really matters.
Ryan Engley, Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA
And let's face it, Americans need to start following a proper sport one of these days......
Dude, American football is the greatest sport ever. I don't care what anyone says.

I find it interesting that the souring relationship with his old team is leading to them commenting that the only reason he's going to L.A. is because no one else would take him. C'mon... if that were the case, they wouldn't have needed to pay the fucker $200million+
