Just saw this on VH1. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IUSZyjiYuY) I'm not linking to it so much for the music as for what's shown/talked about in the video.

Here's a quote from it by Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Just something to think about..................

I think my ears blocked the music out of my head (for they would bleed), but that video packed a really good message and was well-done.

they're the kind of band that 3 years ago would've been putting out videos about how great Nascar and wrestling are.

^And now its en vogue to make "powerfully political" videos.

Its a double edged sword; like, its a great message but Nickelback? Really?

Exactly. I think people should take that presentation, edit out the footage of Nickelback playing and get rid of the song altogether and put in music of someone who's always politically active, regardless of it being "fashionable" at any given moment.

Word.

So now everyone's gonna be like "OMG, NICKELBACK CARE! LET'S BUY THE NEW CD 'CAUSE THEY'RE NICE PEOPLE!"

Fuck you.,

This video definitely could have been dreamed up by the music label's marketing department, but to make fundamental changes, we need more than just the "politically hip" people among us to participate......who unfortunately make up a only tiny minority of the population.

If this kind of music - as bland, predictable and formulaic as it is - gets more people to watch the video & makes them think, I'm all for it. Because do y'all really think Average Joe Dockers-Wearing Citizen is going to listen to the modern equivalent of a Joan Baez or a Bob Dylan?: "Ewwww change the channel - that's that deep music crap only people with long sideburns listen to".

Yeah, but NICKLEBACK?

I've seen a lot of popular artists over the years putting out the same or similar messages.

People who think and try very hard to seem as though they're thinking wouldn't listen to such a shitty band. At least I'd hope so. Sort of a contradicition, 'ere.

Yeah, but you know what? If there's gonna be peace and justice in the world, that message is gonna have to be brought to those who have some real terrible taste in music as well.

Trying to make the world a better place isn't just for those with impeccable taste.

Thats one of those songs where in the background it sounds like the phones ringing. A couple of times I had to turn it down to see if the phone was ringing.

Or...subconsciously my mind was trying to get away from having to hear it.

I've been looking for a song to follow "Right Now" and "Right Here Right Now" on my new mixtape and I think I just found it.
