View Full Version : Web Cameras
My folks live in Virginia and my in-laws live in Florida. I have a new baby so they always want to see photos and hear about their Grandchild. I was thinking of getting 3 Web cameras and sending each set of Grandparents a computer camera.
Does anyone use a Web camera? Are they easy to access?
I think it will be a good Valentines Day gift.

you can do it through msn pretty easily (y) way to cyber it up with the folks. that would actually make a pretty interesting valentines day present if it was a long distance couple...
yeah the cameras are all piss easy to set up, so i say do it
My folks are the typical techno phobes. They bought a digital camera and gave it away because they did not understand how to access the photos. I am hoping someone will help them understand.

oh right. well maybe you could wait until you visit them next and just set it all up for them. cause yeah you'll probably need to set msn or something like that up too. there might be better programs for it than msn, i just know that msn can do it and once it's set up you just click a button to start the camera. i reckon it would be way cool to bring your kid up on that shit (y) i mean not as a complete substitute for actually visiting them, but it's a great way for them to keep in touch regularly and easily especially if they're all heaps far away.

looks good to me (y) in my experience creative are pretty reliable and they will be easy to set up
My father-in-law will easily figure it out. My folks will get a friend to help. They have a guy that set-up their new computer. I imagine he would put it on their desktop and they could easily click the icon. I think I will go pick them up later today. I had the idea when I saw them on sale in the Sunday newspaper and thought about how they could see their Grandkid.
Thanks for the information Tracky and Monkey. I have already surfed MSN and it looks quite easy.

I was thinking of doing something like this as well. I'm going to leave it to mr.p to sort out the details though I think; he will enjoy it more than I would. Gadget shopping and all that.

what! you never had any this whole time!
when my then long-term boyfriend moved 4 hours away to the coast I bought one immediately!!!
I am going to set mine up today. I was going to mail the other 2 to Aiden's grandparents but it is Martin Luther King day so the post office is closed. I think it will be fun since my folks are always asking about Aiden.
I have uploaded the software for the Web Cam. I installed MSN Messenger and I am ready to go when my folks and in-laws get organized. I find this MSN Messenger to be an odd netherworld. I have no buddy list and it full of options. Interesting:confused:

Nah, I used to have a cam with the ex when he lived in Baltimore/Chicago. Then I got a new comp and my parents have the old webcam so I've been sans-webcam for about 3 years now.
What's even more amazing about me and Brett is that we talk on the phone only a few times a month, too. He's not a phone guy, and apparently not really a webcam type guy, but that's okay because I'm gonna force him to use it anyways.
