Facebook vs. MySpace

I used to be all about the MySpace, but to my surprise, I'm finding myself shifting more and more towards Facebook.

There's pros and cons to both sites, but I'm finding Facebook much more enjoyable because it seems more people from my real life world are using Facebook than they are using MySpace (or maybe they're just hiding from stalkers? I dunno). Not to mention I don't get friend requests from lame bands on Facebook either.

Oh and another refreshing aspect of Facebook is there seems to be less "emo"/mirrorcameraphone shots on there.

Facebook is mostly for college students (though it's since expanded to the general public), so you gotta wait a few years before you can use it. :D

But just barely. Facebook keeps all the skeezers away for the most part, but I like Myspace's blog/bulletin feature. Plus, you can be more creative with your myspace page and add songs and shit, which is neato.

^thanks, that's another reason why i like facebook. so i dont have to listen to godawful music everytime i look at someone's page. i always press stop as soon as i can, but it's annoying because then i have to waste my time doing THAT

True. I can't tell you how many times I've had to pause that Rascal Flatt's Bless the Broken Road or whatever shit he made. I wish there was a "permanently never listen to this song ever again?" button on myspace.

But I do like how you can be more creative with myspace, all of facebook looks the same and that's kinda boring.

it works (as in stops the music automatically) about 75% of the time for me
i've already told my friends they aren't real friends if they have music playing
oh and the actual artists pages - their music always plays

I like the way facebook has it's profile setup coded and the ease of connection, features etc.

Myspace always just seemed so clunky to me. Facebook is adding stuff to equal myspace too, like notes and sharing videos and crap. Plus Facebook has a little bit more of a legit reputation.

Yes, that's the secret third option! I love Last.FM and just got an account.

But I consider it on a different playing field from MySpace/Facebook.

I had a LastFM account for like five minutes last winter, but I felt like I was spied on all the time so I removed it. Besides I use my stereo to listen to music, not my computer. And it's because of music I'm on My Space. I've made friends with loads of people I've met at gigs but never talked to until we've found each other on My Space, discovered loads of new interesting music, found pubs in Helsinki and made it to local gigs cause they hadn't been announced anywhere else (or at least those rare occations that I go to the city these days so I haven't seen posters or anything). Like the last gig I went to: it was a guy who'd been to the same Steve Wynn gig as me, stood next to me while I was filming, found me posting on Steve's My Space about it, we became friends, I like his band a lot and they played last week at a new club. 13 paid customers, turned out all of us were on My Space....

I had a facebook account and I no longer attend that school and cannot remember the e-mail they had for me there so I can't login. oops. haha.

I liked facebook, kind of. I like that I can control page layout and do cool stuff on myspace but then that means other people that suck at it can do so too.

That and more people I know IRL know of and use myspace. So I like it better because we can share a ton of stuff on a regular basis.

I was very opposed to all of it.

Then a woman that I'm quite fond of locally sent me a myspace invite and I got sucked into that. Then after a few months she stopped using myspace. Then A few months after that she sent me a facebook invite and I signed up for that. Mostly all my Opus friends are my friends on it and I've never discovered anything useful to do with it.

Myspace on the other hand, I use pretty much daily. I never was very dilligent about starting a yahoo group or writing an email script to track all of the people who wanted to find out about stuff I'm doing. So, now I just send them myspace messages.

Also, some of my favorite music is on myspace. I could do without all of the friend requests from Cash Money Ballaz Icy Hot Stuntaz Puttin Oklahoma Rap on tha Map... but, whatevs.
