Yep, and the documentary called Hearts of Darkness is a must view for fans. It is an award winning look at the making of Apocalypse Now.

I've got it on dvd. It's strange because that's my movie choice for tonight and I know see a thread for it.

Dennis Hopper is one strange motherfucker in that movie.

I just bought the first edition of it on dvd used on amazon five minutes ago because 1) i don't want to buy the redux version 2) the complete dossier version has both... but they're divided up on the dvds so you have to change discs in the middle of the movie, regardless of which version it is. changing discs?! it's not ben hur... no thanks.

I think Redux is better if they would've just left out the French plantation sequence. I can see why it's there, but it just doesn't work at all, and it's too, too long.

I agree for the most part....I mean I felt the original plantation chapter was important from the perspective of historical precedence
/presence.....yeah in the redux it runs way too long.....although the line about "you Americans are here fighting for the biggest nothing" is pretty damn poignant....(y)

That's true.

The Playboy bunnies in the jungle scene was great.

Is the Redux drastically different? I remember my Dad letting me stay up to watch this on BBC2 when I was quite young, when I got the Redux a few years back - I enjoyed it, but did think "there's a stack of boring as fuck parts in it - how did this hold my 11 year-old attention span?!"

Where can I get the original cut?

They're packaged together now as dossier, like someone said. Your best bet, though, is to buy it separately, used. You can find it for about $6 US around here.

i enjoyed the redux version, and particularly the french plantation sequence. it was great when the old man accosted willard for america's perpetual horrific blunder that was the vietnam war. the extra playboy bunny scene was weird and borderline creepy.

1. windtalkers is the gayest movie ever

2. I would never ever own a nicholas cage movie made post 1995

3. I still wouldnt lower myself to own it even though it stars an excellent Canadian actor, Adam Beach as the lead "indian"
he's so excellent in another movie called "Smoke Signals"
Id suggest it to anyone

4. Pfffffffft I own casualties of war on VHS AND DVD
