Paul Giamatti! I've always loved his acting skills.
Apparently, he's being recognized now.

Ewan McGregor.....I love that guy....he was the only redeeming feature of the Star Wars prequels......I can just about watch any feature he plays in,just because he interests me,whether or not he's trying to ride a bike around the world, chasing polar bears or treking through a South American jungle....I find him highly likeable and underrecognized in his craft.....(y)

He can play a blank (Good Shepherd, Rounders, Gerry, and the Bourne stuff to some degree) and not be boring.
His characters are really distinct, too. And he doesn't carry many mannerisms from role to role. Look at his performances -- Will Hunting, Tom Ripley, Good Shepherd, Gerry, Jason Bounre, Linus in the Ocean's movies... they're each completely distinct. It's really impressive.

That's one of the most creepy-crawly movies I've ever seen in my life. I love it, but I feel like I got slimed when I watch it.

It's on DVD now.
I'm not big on Buckowski, so I skipped it. Dillon's good, sometimes terrific. (y)

He IS awesome.
He was in this film about an old rock band that got back together and toured through shitty clubs in Holland. I can't remember what it's called but it has Jimmy Nail and Timothy Spall (also underrated!) in it. And Billy Conolly as their roadie. Bill was just great as this arrogant, old, saggy rockstar desperately clinging to his youth.

I also think Casey Affleck is underrated.
I would say Thora Birch, but I am hesistant on that. Leelee Sobieski is also pretty good, though not well appreciated and used.
Drederick Tatum

I've seen that too. I think it's called Still Crazy. regardless of who he's acting with, he takes every scene.

I forgot David Morse. The Slaughter Rule, 16 Blocks, Proof of Life... tons of stuff.
Speaking of 16 Blocks -- Mos Def is pretty underrated. It's pretty hard to play annoying without being hateful, and he was really good in that. And he was great in The Woodsman.

Thats a toss up. I think (James Franco) just doesn't do enough.
He seems like he's got potential, but gets sucked into pretty boy sort of roles.
But then again, when given the chance, he wrote and directed The Ape (http://imdb.com/title/tt0403848/), so who the fuck knows what's going on in his head?

Do we count Peter Saarsgaard (sp?) as underrated? He got a supporting actor nomination, so maybe not.

especially when he's working for Penn.....in either the "Crossing Guard" or the "Indian Runner".....the man also brings the apocalypse in "12 Monkeys" (y)

If he would have played the character straight up the movie might have had a slim chance, but that whack accent and ridiculous lilt was horribly bad! His role in Monsters Ball (y) is what encouraged me to rent that crap movie(n)
I was hoping his character would be killed in the alternative ending, damn
