I've always respected him and liked his music but I watched Walk The Line the other day and it inspired me to take an active interest and seek out all his music.... after listening to it and reading up on his life story all I can say is "WOW this guy is the shit!"

Suggestion: Check out "Love,God and Murder" a 3 cd compilation with each disc of collected works based on those 3 themes.....I absolutely love "Murder".....and anything that Rick Rubin had a hand in producing.....and if you really get into him check out "Cash" the autobigraphy, great read.....
"25 minutes to go" is my all time fave....(y)

Folsom is great, as is San Quentin. For a good compilation, get the recent one called Ring of Fire. The stuff he did as part of the Highwaymen (Cash, Kris kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson) is brilliant too
he's one of those completely over-rated musicians.
off the top of my head i don't think anyone has ever really praised him as an outstanding musician. but as a singer-songwriter, he is one of the best.

It kind of went more towards the "E! True Hollywood Story" direction with all the drugs...but you can't tell Cash's life story without them.
Still, I loved the movie.

well, yeah, maybe "musician" was the wrong wording there, but its the whole "Cash is God" thing that abcdefz was refering to. I dont get it.

maybe "...with God" is more accurate.

I was thinking about changing my name to "Johnny Money" and taking my show on the road.
You know, sing songs like "Walk the Lane", "A Boy named Jane", and "Folgers Coffee Blues'.
san quentin is a really awesome song, his voice is especially oaky in it. i've never heard the rest of the album though (is it an album? i don't know)

Start off with downloading "Folsom Prison Blues"...I'd go with "Hurt" or "Ring Of Fire" after that...

maybe cause it reminds me a lil too much of my bumhole

Johnny Cash is among the all-time greats (the more you dig into his back catalogue, you'll see), but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e0EQlQXoEo) is blatant bandwagoning if I ever saw it.

I don't think the movie was shit, it was just really, really mediocre.
walk the line was really well done, and is probably one the best music bio films i've ever seen. to the best of my knowledge, and albeit i'm not a big cash fan, the director didn't take liberties with cash's life story, nor demonize him. i was really impressed with phoenix's and witherspoon's musical performances.

Yeah, I thought I saw Mick Jones somewhere in there, too.
I'm just sore at having Amy Lee (Evanescence) and Kid Rock in there. Even a lot of the ones I like I felt didn't really belong there.

U2 had Johnny Cash play on a track in the "Zooropa" album.
Conversely, Johnny Cash covered "One" on one of Cash's "American" albums.

the song U2 did with Cash is The Wanderer, it has some cool vibes to it, not near his best. i contributed to the thread, now i can plug myself... i did the impossible and pulled it off pretty well, remixing JC....

I didn't think it was anything special to be honest. The video is quite good, was really cool to see hip-hop legends showing him some love. (y)
