So it's iced over and "snowing" here in Austin. I think whenever it rains and is cold here in Texas, we deem it "snow" despite it simply being wannabe snow.
Work has closed the past 2 days in a row due to WINTER STORM 2007 (as the news dubs it). And since I also took off Thurs-Sat for some concerts, this is shaping up to be one craaaaaaazy week.
But seriously, the way people around here react to weather reminds me of that Simpsons episode with Action News.
"Now let's look at the death count from the storm."
"Well, Kent, as of now the death count is still zero but we're expecting that to shoot up at any moment."
"Oh, DAMN YOU SNOW!"

ahahhaa
I'd think you all would have the same reaction my parents have been seeing in North Carolina. Complete confusion, irritability, wandering around completely out of sorts. Down where my parents are, they bundle up when it gets down to 50 degrees. They're not used to any of this. And then my coworker told me about how she lived in North Dakota for a while, and when it actually got up to the freezing point, she and her friends would walk around outside with short sleeves on. They had to have public service reminders to tell the locals they can still get hypothermia, even if it feels warmer to them.
It's all about perception, mang.
I'm gonna die in Canada when I visit next month, aren't I? :(

like a shotgun full of snow.
I know you think I am in Oklahoma but Northwest Texas is getting ready for our 5th snow this weekend. We had an ice storm last weekend and it is just starting to melt and here comes another ice and snow event. People up here don't seem to mind. They hop in their cars/trucks and get going. They do not have many trucks to clear the roads so you have to drive carefully. I like to drive in the snow but I also have a small SUV. One good thing is that if we get 5 or more inches of snow it usually melts fast because our weather changes on a dime.

I went to the grocery store last night and not only were the roads deserted but the fucking store was cleared out like a hurrican was coming.
I'm from the south but I still find the whole thing laughable even though I did spin out of control on an icy bridge.
what can I say, I live with a lot of flair. I grip it and rip it.
LOL, I saw clips on the news where these people were constantly falling on the ice trying to walk and whatnot, and texans trying to drive in the snow/ice is a whole different story. Its funny stuff.

i have lived in dallas for almost 19 years and every year when the "arctic blast" hits, everyone freaks out. as soon as someone mutters the word "ice" or "cold", everything shuts down - its almost like someone screamed bomb at the airport. pfffff
shits weak! shits wizzeak!
When I lived in Richmond Virginia I called this phenomenon--Snow Panic.
I worked at a TV station and they would always send me out to get shots at the local grocery store. It was usually some old lady hoarding bread and milk. Then they would send me to shoot the V-Dot ice trucks getting ready for the impending doom. By the time the 6 O'Clock news was over we had caused the entire city to go insane. I loved it when we would get heavy snows. I would walk down the hill to my favorite pub (Poe's Pub) and drink with all the local Church Hillians.
Snow is A OK in my book.
What is not to love about this---------

It's working its way over here to Shreveport....as a Northerner I find it all pretty damn comical aside from having to drive around town with a bunch of people who are acting like the sky is falling. I wanted a sub from Subway for dinner I went to the three locations around here and they were all closed "due to weather" insanity I tells ya

here in L.A we're calling it STORM TRACK 2007!!!!!(!)
some places here actually got snow, i live in the eastern part of L.A and no snow here just coldness, 50 degrees is not cool!
Mr Films, I thought you would get a kick out of a story that aired on the local NBC Amarillo 11pm news (10 actually--the 11pm news is on at 10---Leno starts at 10:30pm). Last night, they interviewed some parents that have kids going to school at UT in Austin. The kids have called home to tell their folks that people in southern Texas are maniacs. They claimed that there is very little ice yet people are freaking and they are glad they grew up in the Panhandle where people are used to bad weather. One kid was hit by a car that was going 10 miles per hour over the speed limit and hit a patch of ice. He said by a telephone interview that people were freaking out but it did not stop them from driving like maniacs. He said they don't slow down when approaching a stoplight and either slide into the car in front of them or into the intersection. The story was quite comical.
Oh, by the way, we are scheduled to get 8 to 12 inches of snow tonight and Saturday......and now they are saying maybe more. I have some movies, Scrabble, the NFL championship games and my wife so we can rub legs like crickets.
Bring on our 5th snow of the season.
Did you really get out of work? You did not get much other than a little ice, right?
Wow, it snows or sleets up here and they don't close schools or work.
Fire ants....when we lived in South Florida my wife was bitten by a fire ant and I had to rush her to the emergency room. She had to carry an epi-pen from that day forward. She was very glad when we found out Amarillo only had roadrunners and armadillos.
You should have Noah walk around with a magnifying glass and have him shout--- die you fucking bastards!
It just started snowing in the Panhandle. I went outside and caught a flake on my tongue.

We just had 20 cm of snow fall up hurr in New Scotland and there weren't even snow ploughs and salt trucks on the road before people were out shovelling, driving, salting their driveways, etc. I walked to the bus stop to university in snow up to my knees and I just said 'Oh, it snowed a little overnight'.
TEXAS!
Thank you for capitalizing Texas and using an exclamation point. Remember that everything is bigger in Texas.

Great advice. I've got one in my desk drawer. This weekend Noah learns the joy of magnified sunlight.
Ooh, something I've been meaning to show my kids as well.
All kids should all be taught to torture bugs. It is good for their self esteem.
