View Full Version : I just had a heart attack on the Metro

I get onto the orange line to travel down towards Virginny, and there's a lady blocking the aisle with a HUGE duffel bag. She's got a scowl on her face and glaring at people trying to squeeze by. She turns towards me and it's at this point I can see a sign around her neck:
"Saudi OPEC Special Agent. DO NOT APPROACH. Will only answer to KING ALLAH."
I then notice she's got two books on the side of her gigantic bag, peeking through that simply say "Arabic" on them.
Now, I'm not one to jump to crazy conclusions, but if I see a sign around someone's neck that says both "I'm an Islamic extremist AND a nutjob" and is carrying around a huge ominous duffel bag, you don't have to tell me twice. I got the fuck off that train. I think I should probably call Metro authorities or something, but I don't see what they can do about it now.

Odd yes, but the same thing happens in Africa with Christian missionaries (only answering to God, abrasive attitude).
I'm sure if I were in a foreign country and didn't speak their language, I'd be abrasive as well.

It was either an attention seeker or an art installation.
Yesterday I change my metro waggon cause I had to stop staring at this old guys 2,5 inch thumb nail. *vomits*

okay, it's perhaps a little dodge if people immediately get scared seeing someone with arabic garb with a massive bag on the underground, but i don't think it's out of order when someone has a FUCKING SIGN hanging from their necks saying not only special agent but DO NOT APPROACH! wtf?
that just seems really... bizarre. i don't know but that sounds like someone doing a social experiment or something, hah! it's so extreme. i would have said something to the authorities about that. not the bag/clothes/whatever stuff, but certainly the blatant message she had round her neck. it's just 2 steps away from "imma blow you up!" if you are inclined to interpret it that way. me, i just think she was evidently proud and militant in her beliefs and wanted to be a bit challenging with 'marketing' that!

^Exactly. There's Islamic people on the Metro all the time and I don't bat an eyelash, because they're like urrybody else. It's when they're like HAY GUISE I'M CRAZY that I get scared. My coworker suggested maybe it was a sociological experiment, too. I dunno.
I wish there were authorities on the Metro, mang. There's supposedly secret agents who go undercover and dress civilian, but none of them did a thing (if they were even on the train). And there's no cops or even Metro authorities at the station I got off at. Blah.

seems like if you were interested in blowing shit up, you would make a point of blending in rather than putting signs around your neck as to draw attention to yourself.

That's also true. Well, now I'll feel even better when I travel home and see all the people on the train without signs.

I would have done the same damn thing. If someone is going to go through all the effort to draw that type of attention to themself, I don't want to sit around and see what they have planned next. You did the right thing girl.

question, why do you call it the metro? i think we're the only place that calls it simply the train

Cuz that's the official name of the train system. Like London's Underground, I'm guessing.
www.wmata.com You can see the symbol in the upper left-hand corner there.
