I saw Tom Morello (formerly of Rage Against The Machine, currently of Audioslave) on either MTV or VH1 talking about this. His exact words were something like....

"I remember once we played a show with the Beasties, and they showed up wearing matching UPS outfits. That's when you know you've come correct."

I was at that show. It was a Leonard Peltier benifit. I think there is a pro-shot video that exisits. I've seen a video on people's trade lists but I've never actually seen the footage. There was a camera crew there. I still have the tshirt from the show. Mother Tounge, Stanford Prison Experiment, Quicksand, X, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, and Rage Against The Machine.

It was supposed to be the same lineup two nights at the Hollywood Palladium but because of something that happened there during an N.W.A. show they made a rule against letting rap groups play there so the shows were combined and it was moved to the Olympic Velodrome on the campus of Cal State San Dominguez in Carson, California. That must have been one of the first times they played stuff from Ill Communication, which wasn't released at the time.

Rage played a record release show for the Evil Empire album at the same place. Lollapalooza 94 was there too but not in the Velodrome. That was the year the Beastie Boys were on the tour.

The beastiemania.com gigography listing for this show can be seen at:
http://www.beastiemania.com/gigog/show.php?g=19940429

There are two recordings of it. One is a video recording, with some bass distortion. The other is a very nice sounding audio recording which usually circulates along side of the Cypress Hill set from the same show.

The timeline from 1994 also puts it into context: http://www.beastiemania.com/timeline/show.php?year=1994
