In light of the Official Nintendo Wii Thread, I'm starting its DS counterpart's thread. Post all game time, thoughts, and news in here. I'll start by saying I'm buying Hotel Dusk: Room 215 tonight; it's a graphic adventure game, with a detective setting. The character art are cool to look at. Their skin tone look light-bluish and pale, and both the characters and setting have a gloomy look to them. Despite Nintendo conducting poor marketting for the game, it's highly sought out for. There's only one unit at the store I'm getting it at tonight.

i have an 'old skool' ds that i am cashing in for the new one. yes, i am a marketing whore. that, plus i got ranald a ds lite for his birthday and apart from looking hella sexy it really is brighter and lighter and makes the opposite sex instantly more attracted to you and everything that they say.

i want to buy contact but it looks a bit weird and like one big RPG in-joke. mr press release , mio, what have you heard?

of course, i also want to get the legend of zelda: phantom hourglass, but that has been pushed back a bit :( man. it's gonna rock hard.

i also want to get hotel dusk because everyone is super hyping it online.

i wish nintendo would hurry up with the ds/wii compatability, like

I own Contact, and have played it for a bit. It's from the makers of Killer 7, that mind-numbing PlayStation 2 game, so Contact is a complete 360 degrees from developer Grasshopper. It's not so much a joke, as it is an RPG at its core. Think of it like taking pointers from EarthBound.

As you progress in the game, you get new outfits, that give you new abilities. On the above screen, the professor that needs help can be seen working and speaking at all times. That's an alright feature, but it's not very exciting at all. There are quirky jokes that can be found throughout the game, reminiscent to the EarthBound series. Also, expect to be doing a lot of level grinding. The battle system is basic; it's an action RPG. The graphics in the game are something else. I liken it to an oil painting.

I don't know. You may like it. It's not for everyone. It also has some online WiFi features, like communicating with others in some fashion.

With each new wave of DS titles, there is always one that pushes the communication envelope online. Metroid Prime Hunters includes voice and text chat in between matches...Club House Games provides online PictoChat, the program included in the DS' menu....and Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam gives us in game voice chat.

Pretty cool shit (y)

I won't get a DS Lite 'till they release my light Blue color (it's out in Japan) and/or mine gets destroyed.

I own Mario Kart DS. It's fun racing online, but I wish there was a Battle Royale online mode. It was a blast playing Mario Kart 64 in Battle Royale mode, with friends. Diddy Kong Racing DS comes out early next month. I've heard it'll be similar to the original for the Nintendo 64, but I've never played that, so I'm not sure how it will be. I hope it'll have an online Battle Royale mode.

I'm thinking about selling my DS soon :(

I've played almost everything there is to play on the system since I got it at it's launch and the only thing stopping me is the supposed Wii connection and the possibility that Phantom Hourglass will be good. Before you know it they'll introduce the next portable system in another year or two since the DS' 5 year span is almost over.

If I sold it now I could still make some good bucks for it on Ebay since I have everything included like the box and Metroid demo......

That's why I am slightly aprehensive. I still remember the pure hatred that flowed from my body when nintendo released the gameboy colour JUST about a day after I won a game boy pocket.

Before you know it they'll introduce the next portable system in another year or two since the DS' 5 year span is almost over.

I don't know about that. I don't even think Nintendo anticipated this much success in both the original Nintendo DS model and its upgrade, Nintendo DS Lite, moreso for the latter. These handhelds are outselling PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and even Wii, in Japan, by a longshot, so if Nintendo were wise, they would expand the lifespand of the Nintendo DS by a few more years. I think that's what will happen. If you look at the upcoming release schedule for Nintendo DS games, there are lots more to come, and good games.

Off the top of my head, this is what you can look forward to:

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
Izuna: The Legend of the Unemployed Ninja
Wario: Master of Disguise
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Heroes of Mana
Diddy Kong Racing DS
Archaic Sealed Heat
Dragon Quest IX: Defender of the Stars
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fate
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Luminous Arc
Lunar Knights
Tales of the Tempest
Mega Man Star Force
It's A Wonderful World
Mega Man ZX Advent

Judging from all that coming out in the future, I can safely say the Nintendo DS will be around for a long time. More developers are bound to announce new games. If Square-Enix can take a massively popular series like Dragon Quest, and release its latest installment on the Nintendo DS, then we've got something huge here.

I'm glad you're both enjoying it. Nintendo DS is a fun-filled handheld. Half the time, I'd rather be playing a Nintendo DS game over any console game. Another factor is convenience.

Pres Zount: I just got the soundtrack for the new Sonic the Hedgehog game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It's different than the soundtracks for the last couple Sonic the Hedgehog games, in which, it's not hiphop-influenced. Regardless, it's a great soundtrack. Quite a large soundtrack, too.

That lawyer game seemed fun.

It has a good plot. You'll be immersed in the tension of each case. As Nastee has said before, it's not necessarily a good example of a puzzle game. You're essentially choosing the correct combination of answers to questions. However, it does get challenging at times. It's not a walk in the park from start to finish. As niche games goes, it's a nice addition to the Nintendo DS library.

To both Nastee & Genocide Tulips: May I suggest trying out Trace Memory? It's about a young woman who gets a package from her father to visit an island, and to learn about the deaths of her parents. Do also look into Touch Detective. It is more of a strange graphic adventure game. The character designs are quirky. And then of course, as I said earlier, if you can find it, get Hotel Dusk. Even you, Nastee, will be impressed. It hasn't gotten a bad review yet. It was made by developer Cing, who previously made Trace Memory.

02-28-2007, 02:21 AM

Deep_Sea_Rain
02-28-2007, 02:32 AM
Basically, the Nintendo WFC allows you to play certain DS games online. The stuff you can do online varies from game to game. Some games allow for voice chat. Some games allow items to be traded. Some games allow artwork to be exchanged from websites. There's all kinds of sweet stuff you can do...

That gaming hub keeps track of all your DS online stats. How many times a day you log on in Animal Crossing: Wild World. How many heads you've blown off in Metroid Prime Hunters. Or how many races you've won in Mario Kart DS.

Once you create a My Nintendo account on the site (I've got one of these...trust me, it goes way beyond the stupid ass "sign up and get cool offers!" shit most sites have), you can then link your DS with your account. Thus keeping track of all your stats.

Diddy Kong Racing is an online title, also. And from what I hear, has a damn good online mode (y)

I'm thinking Lunar Knights, New Super Mario Bros or Sonic Rush. Or Kirby Squeak Squad. Or Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. Eventually Metroid Prime: Hunters and Yoshi's Island DS. and Mario Kart, of course.

Hey, you guys that have the rumble pak, is it any good?

The rumble pak is noisy, but good. More and more games seem to be supporting it, so that's good.

Get Kirby, Metroid, and New Super Mario Bros. (y)

Hey, you guys that have the rumble pak, is it any good?

I love the fuck out of New Super Mario Bros. You'd better be interested in getting 100% in the game as I beat the main game pretty easily. I found Yoshi's Island 2 to be as difficult to 100% as the first one, which is a very very good thing.

I haven't spent much time with Squeak Squad but the ability to save powers (like the Sword and HAMMER!!!!!) and use them at your leisure is kickass. Partners in Time has been okay. More of the same and Hunters I'm having a hard time controlling. It's been all about Mario Kart DS lately.
MK DS Friend Code: 408 115 487 844

Don't have the rumble pak but I'm doing fine without it.

I can't seem to get deeply into Advance Wars DS. It was the first one I played, and all reviews I have seen have said it is much like the others only with added stuff. So if you liked the others...

It should be the kind of game I like, but I only really play my DS on the bus, and each mission takes too long for my ten minute trip. Yes, I know I could save mid mission, but I can't be bothered.

A game I would recomend is Sonic Rush. It is awesome, and the only Sonic game of late to do any justice to the originals. Very fun to play and also a bit of a challenge.

New Super Mario Bros. is fucking great. And Phoenix Wright is like a story book, with decisions to make. During courtcases, they ask you questions, and it branches off into more questions, until you win your case. The second Ace Attorney recently came out for the DS, with new characters. Also, on a sidenote, they announced a new, fourth Phoenix Wright (known as Gyakuten Saiban in Japan) in Japan. The main character is a new guy, and I like him better. His art is cooler. And his hair has a funny wavy style goes on.

As for me, I've neglected my DS for awhile. :/ Gotta get back into the driver seat. I have so much to catch up with. Blah.

Portrait of Ruin is pretty cool, though I'm getting sick of Konami's same handheld formula of side-scrolling action, with RPG elements. It's the only successful move they've made in the Castlevania series. The 3D games never caught on.

Store B was Wal-Mart. Their employees can barely go to the bathroom on their own, let alone recognize when someone's swindling them. :)
