but I'm not talking about the mutilation like, cutting yourself or anything. Talking other stuff; hair color, piercings, tattoos...

do you think the stress and self-mutilation go hand in hand?

I ask because right now I am beyond stressed.

And during this stress... I've noticed that I've changed my hair color three times within the past two months and I want to do it again, I feel this desperate pressing desire to get a piercing of some kind, and I can't stop talking about tattoos.

it seems like they go hand-in-hand, but then again maybe I'm just having stress and the desires for the forms of mutilation happened to occur at the same time randomly.

i mutilate my liver when i'm drunk

i mean stressed, i mutilate my liver when i'm stressed

also, my hands are currently mutilating themselves due to the winter air. they are cracked and bleeding and it hurts to make a fist, this happens every year

i kinda don't want to fix it though. that norweigan hand creme crap usually does the trick but i dunno, i kinda like my hands bleeding right now

also i seem to mutilate myself in my sleep. every now and then i'll wake up with little scratches all over my chest and stomach. maybe once every week or so. they don't hurt or anything, but they're somewhat visible. i apparently scratch myself in my sleep somehow.

today's actually hurt a little, they stung when i took a shower.

i'm an odd guy

^a succubus comes at night and ravages your body in your sleep, bob. duh.

when i'm stressed, really stressed, i get stomachaches and headaches. i normally don't get either of those otherwise. that's how i know i need to cool out.

but i woke up today feeling awful, like i had been run over by a truck, driven by a dinosaur...i still feel like that. had to call in sick to work, AGAIN. and i'm really not stressed. i'm kind of worried about what it could be. :(

same here. To a T.
this other stuff is new though. I just feel like maybe it was my brain coming up with another coping mechanism, heh.

When I get major stress, my whole body feels itchy. Without even realizing it, I start to scratch. That makes me feel more itchy. It's usually a small thing that passes, but with big stress (like when my dad was sick) I can get a full on body rash like hives, and I did it to myself.

In law school, when I had a long paper due, you would see me in the library furiously scratching my head and shoulders and arms.

When I'm stressed I play Counter Strike. When I'm not stressed I also play Counter-Strike. So, staying in front of a computer playing for hours is pure self-mutilation.

I was stressed last week and now this week I have a case of eczema. It's nothing super-gross like the severe stuff you can see on google images, but it's still irritating and sorta gross. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/QueenAdrock1/Diana/rash.jpg)

Maybe this should have gone in the TMI thread.

when im stressed out, i get all wound up, hyper and i talk a mile a minute. i start shaking a bit sorta. sometimes this leads to panic attacks, so i try to chill oput when i feel myself getting wound up.

as for self mutilation of the piercing/tattoo form: i tend to get those AFTER i just went through a big thing. almost all of my piercings were in some way 'celebratory". my tattoo, of course, was almost a statement in my life. it does feel nice to go through a lot of shit and then celebrate it with slight, short lasting physical pain.

i used to run through pain until i couldnt feel it anymore... i obviously need help. :o

I did read an article that said changing your appearance is a sign of depression. I also saw on the Today Show that 80% of the population has a form of depression.

A form of depression? Give me a break. Last time I checked being sad was a form of depression. Happy or sad. We don't have much choice.

I am striving to be an even keeled rock with no emotions.

Hair-cutting is a stress reliever. Doing it yourself, that is.

So is petting kitties. It's been proven to lower blood pressure in elderly people. :o

Also someone mentioned depression, I might be slightly and/or temporarily depressed right now because my situation.

I want hot pink hair so badly right now it's ridiculous. And I just barely turned it red!

When I was working and going to school full-time and super stressed I never thought about anything but work and school. But now that all I do is go to school part-time all I think about is getting my next tattoo. And touching up my old one. I really really want to but what happens when you don't work is you have no money. :(
